@f8 Realistically though, anyone taking a long term type absence is very much painting a target on their back for being laid off. Not just at Dell, but any company. I believe medical, maternity/paternity leave is legally protected - but that just means they can't lay you off while you are ON leave.
But even at that, SOMEONE has to fill in to do your job - specifically if you are gone for months.. So, chances are a new person was hired while you were on leave and then when you get back, you may no longer be needed.

@a8 What do you mean there isn't a pattern lol?? It's literally been - and since covid, and pre covid - August layoffs and Feb layoffs. At least for the BIG layoffs. Feb/Mar layoffs are end of 4th QTR and Aug/Sept layoffs are end of 2nd QTR. It's been like this for far longer than 5 years lol...

Dell layoffs never stop but, their "big ones" are always in the aug/sept and feb/mar areas. Everything in between is cleanup. It's how Dell gets around ever having to signal the WARN act...

I'd say for the most part, yes... but don't let your guard down either. Aug/sept is typically layoff season for Dell and they already had their big splooge in august so, id imagine just small trickels here and there.

You do realize that they have, and will, happily call a man that's on leave taking care of his ailing wife, and tell him he's laid off, right? Perhaps you should contemplate that and decide if you think you're anything more than your badge number.

Definitely not safe. Some countries have quotas as to how many people you can lay off in a month so that we’re not truncated in August are still coming up for notification in September. And there are more lists forming all the time. It will never be safe.

George Michael's song

Last quarter, they gave me the news,
The very next day, I was sent away.
This time, to save on the dime,
They’ll lay off a hundred more, in line.

Once burned, and twice shy,
I kept my badge hidden, but they still said goodbye.
Tell me, Dell, do you recognize me?
Well, it’s been a tough year, it doesn’t surprise me.

Happy profits, they signed with a cheer,
Saying, “We’re stronger than ever, just not with you here.”
Now I know what a fool I’ve been,
But if they cut me once, they’ll do it again.

Last quarter, they gave me the news,
The very next day, I was sent away.
This time, to save on the dime,
They’ll lay off a hundred more, in line.

Short answer is NO.

The last couple of years there have been firing in Late September then November and early December.

Remember Dell does not care about holidays.

Lol hold on to your britches boy. I've watched them lay people off two weeks before Christmas. Do you really think ol' hair-plugs Mike cares about your holiday cheer?

This year, not a single week has gone by at Dell without a layoff, so it’s clear that no one is truly safe. Typically, the major layoff waves come around January and August, but things have been different this year. If it happens, then it happens, life has never been a straight path, and no one is exempt from layoffs. I’m grateful for the time I’ve had at Dell because it helped me cover my bills, and if I end up being part of a layoff, I’ll move forward and find the next opportunity. If I’m impacted by a layoff, my plan is to take two months off to recharge before exploring new opportunities. I have never been able to take time off during my career at Dell.

Layoffs have been happening since Covid with more happening the last 2 -3 years. There is no real pattern. The only pattern I kind of see is that it happens every quarter. Someone, somewhere gets laid off.

Asking people what they think will get you nowhere. Asking people if they've heard anything? Equally pointless because most of the time the intel that we get here is when the layoffs actually are in flight.

Yup. We're all safe until at least the first week of March (Q1).

To quote a famous man, "Go home and sleep quietly in your beds, it is peace [job security] for our time."
