Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Giving grace

I know a lot of employees are rightfully frustrated with the stress-induced layoffs over the last few years. The truth is that management is honestly listening and trying to do its part to make things better. One of the behaviors that can cascade stress to the workforce is leaders temperament and mood changing in relation to commodity markets. It shouldn’t matter whether markets are high or low, we should continue to treat one another with dignity and respect. When leaders panic because markets change, it cascades stress to the rest of the workforce. We have to continue to remind ourselves that it is a marathon and not a sprint and the best way to reduce restlessness in the workforce is remaining calm irrespective of what the market does.

OP, you are living in a fantasy world. The layoffs are not over. The LT has implemented forced ranking and perpetual firing of the bottom tier. This is not a group of people that care at all about employee morale.

@a7 so many companies who were too big to fail have in fact failed.

Chevron is a dying company in a dying industry. Companies that are winning in any environment and growing don't spend decades slashing jobs and benefits. As officers of the company, they can't say it publicly, but their actions say they know it to be true.

Management has done an abysmal job since 2020. They took a company that once had pride and a great working environment and completely destroyed it. Its a miserable company now. If they really deserve grace then they need to stop sending jobs overseas and start truly listening to the needs of the employees. Lighten up on the in office policy and truly share the CES Results. The transparency is terrible.

Need to outsource the c-suite roles to India, that would be hilarious!

Counterpoint: management is actively not listening, and when they do unavoidably hear things, they go out of their way dismiss/obfuscate/downplay. Examples:

  • RTW mandates have been unpopular, and morale su-king, and all studies/evidence shows they decrease productivity. Yet management refuses to acknowledge.
  • The new org structure is broken, and staff has asked for more leadership direction for a year. Management explicitly avoids acknowledging in any way.
  • They refuse to accept any evidence/feedback that AI will not succeed at specific tasks or functions.
  • have you seen the full CES results? Nope, and you never will. This is intentionally done to avoid accountability and acknowledgement.

Apart from hand waving and gaslighting, management has not addressed a thing. And it ain’t changing,

Companies die all the time. Each org chart is worse than the last. Dozens of advisors, no one actually doing real work. I think management has to realize we are in competition with real gritty oilmen arcoss america and countries that can pay employees cents on the dollar. All these robotics advisors and OE stewards that never are in the firld and that never programmed a line of C++ are a tax on the company
