Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I voted no and here is what happens next.

It took 8 years for the union to get ba--s after the terrible 2008 contract. 2016 we went on strike and made modest gains.

We lost those ba--s.

8 years from now, Dan or whoever, will invoke the spirit of Lowell and come after us again. We should have stood our ground now so we won’t need to do it in 8 years. We could have made REAL gains today but now we will make only modest gains going forward.

@vz I don’t think your brag about the pension is anything you should really be bragging about. It is a pathetic pension that I would think most wouldn’t take annuity wise and would just take a lump sum. Techs who got hired without it if investing wisely will make out just as good probably.

@OP As far as IBEW 827 goes. Went downhill fast with The John Miller regime. First the Vz shirts, then the medical costs. Then the 3 out of 4 Saturdays a month. For a whopping 6 bucks extra a Saturday. And it continues with his former Vice President.

Ya man no doubt that it started before that I believe 2012 the union did same thing sent us bak to work out no where unexpectedly .Both strikes we had them specially when both times there were natural disasters that took place soon as we came back to 16 hour forced OT.At the same time the unions were selling us out so started 2012 then it was a repeat in 2016 someone got a huge payoff to cut a deal to send us back. This place is just a company union now the ibew and cwa barely can even win an argument never mind a contract. They barely can win any grievances if they even get heard .But once company denies them almost nothing gets arbitrated since it cost money and time .So not really sure what’s left anymore just keep working till 65 I guess

there were no gains in 2016 fool.
the union framed it at the beginning of the strike as if we were fighting for continued no out-of pocket medical for both active and retired members.
Then, when it was over, one day before unemployment was about to start, the Union pulled the plug and capitulated.
Who got a wealthy payoff on that deal. smh

Just remember pre 2008 union members still have to work and can't retire. So let them brag about benefits that will never use.

Lame, everyone knows the union is weak, everyone knows its members are weak, and everyone knows that even stewards will cross the line.

@OP explain what your expectations were and what do you think we would have gained given the state of telecommunications and the world right now!
