Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Attention displaced associates that are still here

If you apply for anything, you are not given any priority whatsoever. This is just another lie that was peddled by our dear ELT.

Yes IMO you are correct. If you show "ISP" you may was well have a scarlett letter on your chest. The thought will be that you are were riffed for a reason and are probably toxic. From my stand point, why would I want to work with a firm that didn't practice what they preach? What would happen if I were able to "beat" the ISP and get back in? What sort of target would I have on my back?

The only postive part of being "riffed" from Jones is I get 2 1/2 months to look for another opportunity and get paid. Agreed the job market su-ks but this is a phase. Also note we are entering the 4th quarter of business and most business doesn't have the $$ right now to hire...they are cutting to get to bonus territory themselves. New year will equal new money.

@a9 The big concern is whether or not you will be hired back at the end of your severance. While I do concur Jones has historically paid less than other businesses, the job market right now is horrendous. I've been applying externally and have yet to receive a single interview for any near-lateral or above moves. If you can't get a similar or better job elsewhere, you might be better off trying to stay - not to mention the "internal" reputation you've been building over your time here. Granted, you might just be let go again, and I don't personally want to stay, but if it's what ends up being best for my family then I'd stay. It's such a hard place to be in with no "right" answer, you can only make your best decision with the information you have on hand now. I'm scared I'm going to lose a decade's progress and salary improvements and reset back down to entry level externally.

One of the GPs that got “retired” apparently went back into the field. It does not matter how incapable they were in their job. Love how some people fail up.

@a7 That sounds about right. I was ISP'd. I was at EJ for quite awhile so I have a fairly lengthy severance package. There is no way in the world I am going to apply to EJ again until I get to the end of my severance. Why would I want to go back to work at EJ and have to pay a portion of my severance back to them and work for the same pay or less pay when I can just sit at home worst case scenario and collect a fat check? I have been interviewing with other employers in the meantime. I have found out the loyalty penalty at EJ is definitely real. The lateral positions I am interviewing for are paying around $10,000 more base salary. Companies say they want long term loyal employees, but they will bring in someone from the outside at a higher rate than the long term employees they already have. Edward Jones used to be a special place. Penny's breach of trust has made this just a transactional relationship. Penny is like a prost---te. It is just an act, a business transaction. No kissing allowed.

Me and my fellow ISP'ers from my team have applied to 35 positions collectively, only 2 reached interview, and all 35 have been denied.

@op I did not think separated associates would get any priority. Why would anyone believe anything that comes out of that lying Penny's loud mouth? Plus, they may actually put separated associates to the back of the line due to the severed relationships senior leadership has fostered. They may not even hire separated associates unless they cannot find anyone else to fill a role. Penelope is the most deceitful senior leader I have seen in my career. Most senior leaders will sc--w you to your face. Penny just keeps doubling down on her lies. It is obvious her parents did a horrible job in raising her. Parents worth their salt teach their children lies just add up until you cannot get out of them. It is obvious Penny's parents never taught her this lesson. Penny's parents must have been horrible people too.
