Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Are you prepared to be terminated?

8 years ago I realized terminations were not going to end any time soon. I began putting my financial house in order and expanding my skills. I wanted to ensure I would be able to support my family if I could no longer find employment in the technology sector. I've interviewed for positions I was very over qualified for and did not like what I was seeing. Everyone wants to pay near minimum wages regardless of skillsets and experience. Today I am far less concerned about being let go than I was back then. Anyone else made realistic preparations for their untimely exit?

I'm ready. House paid off. Kids through school. I haven't trained for another career. I'm ready to retire but want my severance.

Most T employees need to be preparing for a layoff. Tye severance payment is going to be final lifetime employment compensation for moats

" AT&T looks at the cost savings of positions, the person and their performance are not taken into account during the termination process."

This is 100% incorrect for management surplus. Salary has zero consideration in the process.

ADs and Directors rank their teams based on their own opinions about the value each team member brings. Also, make no mistake that "likeability" and a PITA factor WILL weigh in heavily in their ranking. If you are always causing either one or both of them headaches, you are done.

They simply have to offer heads based on the percentage of cuts mandated. Again, salary is NOT a consideration, despite what the misinformed person that keeps claiming that says.

It was 10 years or so ago when these layoffs became a regular thing.

At that time, with younger kids, a mortgage and all of that jazz, it did cause me a lot of angst. I made it a point to get my resume and LinkedIn profile up to date. I took a couple interviews and came very close to leaving. But ultimately decided to stick it out.

Since then, the semi- regular cadence of these layoffs no longer bothers me. I really don't care anymore. The house is paid off. The kids are through college. I have no debt.

I don't want to retire yet, so I am staying. Ironically, mostly because of concerns around pre -65 healthcare premiums...if there was still a subsidy for management employees, I would be much more likely to go on my own (great vision there Stank).

If they decide to retire me, so be it. I'm going to be fine. Good luck everyone.

@c2 Always going to be dimwits here because the bar has been set so low at ATT. Good to see others thinking proactively.

Let’s be honest, T wants to surplus the more senior employees because those are typically the ones with the higher salaries vs. the newly hired employees.

Termination isn’t the same as being laid off/surplussed, etc.

I don't think I'm being impacted this round, but decided to sell my house ASAP and de-risk in preparation for the July/August layoffs which might be even worse.

Get your Financials in order, yall. Bring your lunch, cease using the Starbucks downtown as an out and just drink office coffee for the time being. Take non tollroads if need be.

I already know I’m being surplussed since my user account was locked out in error a couple weeks back. When I checked, my manager confirmed I am being impacted.

AT&T looks at the cost savings of positions, the person and their performance are not taken into account during the termination process. A poor performer makes the same as an outstanding performer!!

The company pays the position not the person!!
