Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Roll call

Who's still hanging around here with zero chance of falling asleep because your stomach is in such a tight knot that lying down just makes it worse?

@OP Ok, so let's say, you don't get layoff this round. Are you going to move forward with life as normal, or are you going to start preparing yourself by educating yourself, by taking training courses, by learning new skills, by saving your money, by spending less? Because the next round of layoffs could have your name on it.
If you prepare yourself, you won't feel so bad about getting layoff since you have a plan. You won't get depressed if you can't find a job for few months, cause you prepared for this exact scenario. You prepared yourself to save enough money to last you not only several months but perhaps even several years. It's all about how you spend your money and do without things that you think you really need.

@a7 And they increased it by $0.25 just a week or so back (since tariffs just hit them) and items now $1.50

Dollar Tree is raising prices to $1.50 on some items that currently cost $1.25.
Some store employees are putting red stickers over the $1.25 price point in preparation for the change.
Dollar Tree's CEO said earlier in June that the company would consider price increases after taking a hit on tariff costs.

The Dollar Store changed their prices during the last administration, mid-COVID.

@a5 Hope you have six months of emergency money (for bills, rent, food, healthcare, insurance, car, etc.). People spend money like they will always have a job. I hate to say it, but it's time US Americans learns how to budget and save money. And bring back the fundamentals of math and science. People need to stop using a calculator or excel spreadsheet and actually learn how to do simple math. When you can't do math, you can't calculate where your money is going. What credit card interest rates mean when you pay only the minimum. What a 6% mortgage actually means. What interest on college loans means and how long you'll be paying it. Jobs don't last forever, and money doesn't grow on trees. It's going to be a hard lesson for Americans in USA. AI is taking your job and you needed to save your money. That's just the fact of life.

I am having a hard time sleeping tbh. I am anxious all day and feeling stressed tremendously. What scares me most is not finding a job that will pay me what VZ has paid me. I worry about not being able to find something comparable I’ve had friends laid off earlier in the year and they have yet to find a full time role.

@a1 Yes, it doesn't feel good. Life is about to get a lot tougher for many. Inflation has hit really hit 50%. You don't need to go far to find out how. The Dollar Stores used to sell everything for a $1. Then they increased everything to $1.25 and now it's $1.50 . That means you're paying 50% more.
