Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Do canceled reqs get taken?

We are already short people with several reqs open and one stopped during the hiring freeze before interviews could be done. If they need to cut from my team do these count as a headcount?

@a9 the algorithm is the king power. VP stack rank is just one component of the equation. VPs have a tremendous amount of input on a reconsider (they are very big owner of part of the business)… but they would need to be sold the company/they can’t live without a particular person to put their own necks out.

Think about it, how many people are truly not replaceable? If the C Suite and Sub C Suite can be replaced so can every other employee.

@a8 So it sounds like you are saying the algorithm has more power than your VP's stackrank of the team?

@a5 It’s tough to tell based on circumstance. Is the position being completely eliminated? If so, no. Is it a pure reduction on the title? If so, probably. If you just got hired, you were just ranked and rated as part of being hired. Reduction is preferably to eliminate higher paid employees that don’t have the motivation to get more promotions. Would you rather keep someone that is motivated or someone that is doing bare minimum just to get by? This is part of a much larger algorithm that HR uses. Believe it or not, it’s not as “personal” as people think it is by their leaders. More often than not your direct manager and probably your next level leader have ZERO control of the people the system picks. There is process where a “revaluation” can be requested with modifiers on the HR algorithm… but 98% of the time HR won’t do it or it doesn't make a difference to their calculation output.

Bad employees will always be slid in because it’s an “opportunity” to get rid of them. Most of the people that would be impacted are great worker bees…just didn’t escape the algorithm for one particular reason or another.

@a4 internal hired(moved)within 1 month could be RIF-candidate, or considered relatively safe in new team as changed role?

Yes. If your leadership is good, they will do this organic. It’s common for smart leaders to hold back the heads and then just surrender them. This is usually a great measure of how intelligent your leadership team is
