Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Anyone able to share email from Kari?

It was said that all employees received it but I am a contractor and haven’t received anything. It’s probably safe to assume we’re first on the chopping block when it comes to JE but it’s not like we’d be notified of it.

@af just because they are marked voluntary in workday does not mean it was. I was marked as a voluntary termination and it absolutely WAS NOT voluntary. Seeking legal representation.

@e9 many contractors are terminated as of today, so no one is safe

If you’re a contractor, you’re not in the payroll bucket. You’re time and materials, which is more akin to assets and contracts than payroll/staff. Contractors aren’t likely to be considered as part of this reduction.

For you, I’d be more concerned about chatter around program and business budget cuts.

@af
The 3% is globally and I bet not the same for all locations (HIH will not be touched), so the numbers in US will be much higher. Remember, if you want to lie, use statistics.

@bx I don't think that's for you to judge who is a high performer or who should be managed out. Lots of people who are slackers but just good at gossip or optics are being kept around and that probably includes you.

@b7 I wasn’t asked to provide any input about who on my team was being laid off. The decision was made by the band 6 above me. And I can tell you there were some names on that list that made no sense.

@b7 I was told it’s not performance based at all, but I’m with you - if it wasn’t, how did they decide to take 2 people who should have been managed out years ago plus 6 high performers? No rhyme or reason someone put a name on a list.

@a4 thank you for being a manager willing to say this! Can you tell how they are picking and choosing? I got laid off this morning but of course “nobody” knows why but you can’t just tell me our name was randomly picked. Or will they use/blame AI there too? Just sp-t out a few names and lay us off

@aa If you have access to ServiceNow you can search for users to see active employees. But it will probably take awhile before they're removed from the system.

And my team handles cutting off access for some. I personally know of 102 terminations - voluntary and not since 1/9.
It's been on average 7-10 a day since the VRP offered in 2025. This has been going on and will continue. They are dumping people daily. So it's far more than 3%.

@a5 That's globally. Some orgs are going to get hit harder than others. It just looks good on media when you can say "less than 3%".

@a4 Curious, are the folks being let go mainly older employees?

@a4 Sorry, in my post below I meant to say the 2,000 number was claimed to be less than 3% of employees in Kari’s email (not 2%). That is clearly a lie.

The 2,000 layoffs (2%) by the end of Feb is clearly a lie. I am halfway through notifying my team members who are being JE’d today. Out of an org of 289 people we were forced to eliminate 51 people, which is 17%.
And I’ve heard from other band 5s and 6s that they are eliminating between 5-20% of their staff today.

@a2 enterprise) by the end of February. Today and over the next few weeks, leaders will communicate directly to those colleagues whose roles will be impacted. We want to emphasize that role reductions are never taken lightly, and impacted individuals will receive severance pay and benefits as part of their transition from the company.
Looking ahead, we will continue to evolve our talent structure, as we always do, to drive efficiency, sharpen our processes, and strengthen ownership - while also hiring and investing in key areas aligned to our strategy. We will also continue to take proactive steps to innovate and partner to enable us to deliver even more value and ensure our customers have

At our All Team Meeting in December, you heard from David and Brian about efforts to drive more efficiency across all businesses and functions as a key enabler of our customer-centric evolution and our new Lead to One strategy. They noted that one result of this effort will be a smaller workforce by the end of this year, and I am writing to share a timely update and some additional context about those actions.
It's undeniable that the pace of change within the health care environment requires us to respond with
even greater urgency to meet the unique needs of all our customers and patients. We'll do this, in part, by leveraging Al and automation to streamline and simplify processes, tapping into our global capabilities, and exploring different approaches to address complexity and inefficiencies throughout the organization. We'll approach this important work with flexibility, prioritization of resources, and a willingness to evolve.
To that end, in addition to those colleagues who chose to participate in the latest Voluntary Retirement Program, we plan to reduce our global workforce by approximately 2,000 roles (less than 3% of the
