Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Bye Bye Bonus

Fresh off the presses: No scorecard this year, company-wide.

The board is about to approve the decision. That means no more numbers, which means they've effectively laid the groundwork for no more guaranteed bonus for all employees YOY.

This is effectively moving towards a distributed model, where you will be judged individually

  1. How much of your bonus will you get (already been happening last few years) and
  2. Now even if you will GET a bonus.

2026 off to a great start!

@a4 You sound a manager or someone who's an extremely obsequious, fawning, or sycophantic to the management!

@20n bonuses at Wells? I was a call center rep for 2 years before coming to USAA in 2015, never received a bonus.

@an incorrect. Former WF employee and bonuses are very common. Even in entry level management. My current FI is the same way.

Just a reminder for those new. We still get the bonus, we just don't have the big meeting about it. Just a little more culture erosion. Is anyone else not impressed with Juan's first 10 months? He is bland and boring, but maybe that's what the board needed after two failed CEO selections in a row. Can I donate my bonus to buy him a personality?

@v2 I also worked for Chase in EMM (electronic money movement) at the San Antonio regional office from 2009-2014, this is the first I’m hearing about any sort of bonus they gave out.

I worked at Chase from 2009 to 2020 and I got a bonus every year. I started as a 601 level and was a 603 level by the time I left. My bonus was not impressive in my opinion (it was never more than 10% of my base salary), but I did get one every single year as did everyone else I knew who worked there. I’m surprised to hear that so many of you do not get annual bonus there.

@hn do tell, what bonuses did Chase give out annually to non executives? I was there 2008-2013 as a Business Analyst at the San Antonio site on 281 & Stone Oak Pkwy, when I asked our Ops Manager if we get any type of yearly or holiday bonus, he laughed me out of his office.

I came from WFC and it's so hillarious to find out that the bigger 3 banks don't give annual bonuses to non-execs. Other smaller banks have bonuses. I enjoyed my bonuses and stock options at WFC. Nevertheless, we should not compare USAA with the banks. State Farm, AllState, and even Flo, Jamie, Gecko, and LiMu Emu have annual incentives, why should we lose the only one thing that's keeping us here.

@a4 the bonus is based on individual performance balanced with company performance.

@fp you realize the bonus has changed drastically in the last 6 years, right? We can talk bad about Stuart’s tenure as CEO, because it was bad, but he did fight the BOD against dropping the bonus. If you noticed, the bonus structure changed during the Peacock regime, and it’s going to keep changing, why else do you think they did away with the quarterly corporate scorecard. Everyone is going to be quite surprised at the 2/4 employee meeting and the townhalls that follow.

Remember, we’re “One USAA” until it comes to the bonus payout.

@hn I worked at Chase as well, I was a lead at the Columbus Ohio office for C.O.A.L (court orders and levies), 2008-2013 then moved back to Texas for USAA in July 2013. Like another poster, what bonus, we were lucky if we got a 4% merit increase for being a top performer.

Managers got bonus money to divide out on Monday, and have already received updated guidance for next year, so this post is straight trash

@g7 - Chase gives bonus every single year in form of Cash bonus & then for executives in form of shares. So many at USAA are like frog in a well situation.

@ea Chase, as in JP Morgan Chase Bank? When did that start? I was with BankOne/Chase from 2000-2017 and we never got a bonus, unless you call discounts on buying stock the bonus, or the $1k bonus we got in Feb 2017 due to the Trump tax cuts, other than that my area didn’t get anything.

They’ve been laying the groundwork to eliminate the bonuses since Robles left.

@an BS!!! I have worked at BofA and Chase. My spouse worked at Citi. We have friends at Wells Fargo. Bonuses happen at all the places and not just executives. I will say some places don’t pay much of a bonus unless you are an executive but they all pay them.

This, if true, is part of More On’s plan to thin the herd before next phase. Current exe’s (refuse to call them leaders) are focused on saving $$$ over owning their failures.

This is true, once Gen Robles retired and the old BOD members were getting replaced, they wanted Stuart to do away with the annual bonus, but he fought them and kept it. So when Stuart “resigned” wink wink and the BOD lackey Wayne took over, that’s when changes to the bonus started happening.

@a4 you realize other companies don’t give bonuses to their employees. I’ve worked for 2 of the biggest banks in the country if not world, only ones who got bonuses were the high level executives that reported directly to the CEO. You also fail to realize, the bonus is what makes USAA’s pay competitive in the industry, a lot of MSR’s will be making way under industry wages if not for the bonus.

This is good news. Thank you for sharing. I think this makes more sense. So many people took bonus as privilege & rights. The bonus always should be based Individually & On performance. This will promot healthy competition & will actually be better for truly deserving people. This is how companies other then USAA works.
