Verizon Layoffs Nothing To Do With Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Just think, this round of Verizon layoffs have nothing to do with Artifcial Intelligence. Once AI and its resulting streamlining of required human resources takes hold at Verizon the possibilities for recurring downsizing are highly likely.

May be time for VZ'ers to seriously start looking for a more trade based occupation.

@a4 I dont think our company is that smart not to... but this has been in planning for years to replace all frontline workers with AI visable was a project to test and gauge it. however this is planned for 2-3 years from now but with recent enhancements this is going to come sooner, I just dont predict its coming this or next year we will just outsource more then reduce head count with partners as time goes on

@a4 I don’t know if you’ve called in and tried to get help with simple things even knowing the end or how to do it. It’s near impossible so really the talent that we have is 90% outsourced and it’s horrible. There are so little Control over them and what they do how they behave and the things they learn it’s just everyone winging it so AI could definitely outperform that and its current state and this is something that’s been developed for years I just believe it’s getting launched a year or too early based on the new CEOs initiative.

I worked on a special dark project and the plan was AI integration within five years that was three years ago however AI has skyrocketed in availability and it’s always has been Verizon‘s way to copy AT&T and with AT&T‘s launch of AI for support roles Verizon is gonna follow suit also if there’s any Business I know that knows how to burn the candle at both ends and is a dead growing industry that’s PayPal. Also they’ve made it pretty clear that people have the most 10 year are the least coachable and are not moving in Performance so those I wouldn’t say who are targeted but those are heavy deadweight. When you add that they cost 5 to 10 times as much as one overseas who’s willing to sell, it’s pretty simple. I just really hate how a company looked at talent as a waste product we should’ve joined a union years ago. This is our fault.

I don't believe that AI can replace all humans, but I've told my kids that the jobs of the future are trade jobs that cannot be outsourced or offshored. For years Vz has said they want a flexible workforce. What they cannot outsource or offshore, they will fill with contractors that can be onboarded and offboarded as needed.

The people who think AI is going to be capable of adequately replacing humans any time soon are clueless.

Every company that has tried to downsize and replace with AI has had to back track or has flopped.
