Today I was impacted by layoffs over at Mattel. I'm completely heartbroken bc this was my dream job. It was a privilege working on Hot Wheels, Barney, Thomas & Friends, American Girl, Jurassic World & more.

@kgc and you think that’s a positive way to have job security or that she’s the only one? Every team is an skeleton crew…

I asked one of the team leaders if she was impacted by the layoffs. She said, "Nope, we were cut to the bone two layoffs ago, so there's nothing left to cut."

Job security right there!

It's been over 10y since I was laid off from Mattel. One of the 2 most toxic places I've worked for. The $100k people pay the price for the stupidity, thick headed-ness and arrogance of the leadership (at least in my days and bases on the company executive list, some of them are still there)
I know it sounds like a cliche but you're all better off

Have a lawyer review any severance. In some cases you can push for more as well

Consider yourself lucky, you weren’t there long enough to get deeply enmeshed in the manipulative culture, where the stakes are always portrayed as higher than they truly are, comments people make can be taken out of context & blown out of proportion, people takethemselves way too seriously, and leadership implies a false narrative that you can’t go anywhere else and succeed.

If you were impacted by a layoff, make sure you get all the Paperwork from MSSS in EA and sign them within the proper time frame. Found MSSS responded to severances employees quicker than current employees.

Your heart always aches for the most toxic of your exes. Time will readjust your lens and “You’ll be better off” - seems like a cliche but looking up at the literal children left on the top floor who narrowly think the only way to move forward is to reorg and feel like big men…there is nothing worse than the future of this company.

you might not feel lucky right now but after you get another gig and have settled in to something new you will realize that you will have value elsewhere.

you owe them nothing.

they do this every year to make their numbers. they don't see you like you see them. it's just a fact.

It's not a privilege to work for any organization that kicks Americans to the curb.

We usually keep it anonymous here as HR comes here as well. if you don't feel comfortable, don't sign anything. Or have a lawyer look at it. It happens.
