Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

After 30 years….

Through the years I’ve amassed lots of AT&T stock. My frustration level with our so called leaders has never been higher. I’m ready to dump it all and invest in much better companies that will easily return more than the T dividend could ever deliver. Has anyone else decided the same? TY

@a3 I had a work mate retire and ran into him in the parking lot about 2 yrs later. We visited and he told me that he was now working at 67 as a contractor trying to sell to AT&T. Turns out, he had about 50k+ shares of T and his financial advisor told him to keep the stock as it was growth and he'd live off his dividends. The stock tanked, the dividends were cut, he lost 3/4 of his money, his dog died, his wife passed, his kids moved to Europe, - AND - he had to go back to work as a salesman after retiring from his VP job.
His flaw was buying too many shares in T, not diversifying, selling shares and listening to an outsider that did not know the interworkings of a telco who thought they were an entertainment company.

According to the website totalrealreturns (fantastic site btw), adjusted for inflation and including dividends -You’ve made only 134.22%. Voo (Vanguard SP500 ETF) has made 497.35%.

Zero reason to hold ATT stock

Enroll in financial engines ASAP or talk to them which is a company provided benefit to manage 401K at a discounted rate. if you are holding 30 years of stock, that doesn’t grow you seriously need them. I have enrolled with them since I joined the company and now have close to 600K in it in a span of 13 years with 12% contribution and no company stock benefit.

I sell it every pay period.
Never hold T.
Have been dumping it like clockwork since the day it vested and I could get rid of it.

The best time to sell T stock was yesterday. The second best time is today

@am , more like “cr@pto-currency”. Physical precious metals is far superior to crypto & the (fiat) dollar. When the economy crashes, you’ll see that truth all too well.

I sold all of my matching stock the day after I got it over the decades, diversifying it into the Total Market Index. I've never held a single stock, low cost no commission index funds all the way including the world gave me 30 years of great results.

If you have been holding T stock, you need better financial advisors. Hire someone new. Today. They are the most corrupt and incompetently run player in a sector rapidly being made irrelevant. Even a bad financial planner can see it. The only day it will pay off to own T will be the day they are finally acquired and dismantled by SpaceX, Amazon, or Google just for the spectrum they own.

Investing large amounts of $ in a single company is generally a bad idea - even worse idea if the company is your employer. Diversify, my friend!

I personally have never held onto T stock. I knew in could get better returns in the market.
T is a retirement stock- dividends but no growth.
