Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike should at least give the option

Most need the money. Some can't give a s--t and would love an optional package to leave.

If it's not really a secret some will be cut, why not offer voluntary layoffs first?

If you do that you only lose your competent people. The rest won't leave because Nike is likely the last tech job they'll ever have. I've sat through the our ridiculous interviews. There like the IQ test in Idiocracy. He-l I know some people got job offers without a technical interview.

@a3 why would I quit. I half a-s this job, I get paid relatively well, and I wfh. I'm all the nepos, they su-k a-s but I am just semi retired. When I do leave I expect to get compensated. My only concern is that my manager is investing me, which makes me nervous about not getting my layoff package 😢

but really, they just want people to quit already, do they really care if they are good or not, all they see is one less debit on the accounting sheet, the rest they will figure out, the machine keep's on machine'n, it can't be stopped....well it can be slowed down...considerably.....

Another company I know used this system (mostly for older employees) of voluntary layoffs/early retirement and honestly… it’s been a mixed bag of good/bad people that left.

But generally good in that they had a lot of industry knowledge. Not to trigger the age/value debate per se.

For the person that wants (needs?) to stay at Nike it does make a TON of sense to shop around for those that don’t care/have money/can easily work somewhere else.

@a3

And lose out on working with abrasive bootlickers like you? Never!

@a4 It's the exact opposite. Voluntary severance favors the better workers who are able to find another job easily as it allows them to double dip on wages. Bad employees don't take it because they can't find other jobs and can't afford not to work, leaving the company with just bad workers.

I will take the option or leave.

I can't wait to never see my Manager ever again! I hope she stays for another 20 years.

because all the cr-ppy workers would take it, leaving no one to lay off, the idea is to cut the good workers so they can have people around that contribute absolutely nothing

There’s always an option… you can just quit.

Should but can’t.
People in leadership positions too scared too many would take it.

They’re scared of the reality they created.
