Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Laid off a few years ago from Verizon… life is BETTER

I feel for everyone going through the RIF right now. I was there, high performer for the company, bled for the company, and there I was dismissed.

If they offer it, take the enhanced severance package. This package gives you 50% more but means you can never work at Verizon again. I asked where I could sign instantly when presented with the this option.

I found another job that pays me 25% more than when I worked at VZW, and I was a high performing leader. Honestly, VZW is a sinking ship. If you aren’t RIF’d this go round, start looking for something better. The grass is greener on the other side.

The sun will shine again, and brighter once you are out of the VZW shadow.

I've been in Telecom for 40 years and the stress level has done nothing but exponentially increase every year!

It’s a tough market out there but living in the stress of Verizon is worse.

@a9 America is going through a lot right now. Get ready for a recession once the housing market finally bursts.

All the negativity. I was RIF’d last year and while it’s tough out here, this is America and there are plenty of jobs. Maybe not THE job, but jobs

@a6 Well yeah, there will be regular severance so you don't sue, but not the VSP package where you get double the traditional payout.

It's much easier to say sure I will take twice the payout and insurance once you know you're already fired.

@a3 keep your head up and stay optimistic… Verizon is losing fantastic employees and the opportunities out there are real…

HAHAHA there is no option for enhanced severance. We're not taking VSP. We're being booted out the door!

@OP If you lose your current job, and in this economy it's very likely you may next year (as most of us will in USA), it will be difficult finding another job (especially as you get older). Not many corporations want to hire anyone over 45 these days. Even PhD college graduates with some experience can't find a job (and even Harvard graduates). Save your pennies or should I say nickles (since pennies are no longer produced).

@a1 it was mid 2024… hope it is relevant. Ask for the enhance severance package, can’t hurt
