Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Are we still going to be working after the announcement?

So if we are told on Thursday that we are being let go are we done that day or are they going to keep us working for another month after the announcement? The last round of mass layoffs that happened in 2023 they announced the layoffs in May, but kept all those employees until August or October depending on what group you were in. Just wondering if it will be immediate or if they will expect us to continue on for another 30 or 60 days before we are done.

Its doubtful that they would close the retail stores during the busiest retail season of the year. So, just a guess, but even if your location is slated to close/become independent agent, it would be business as usual through the holidays. If that does happen, don't let it distract you. Many will be distracted and neglect the job. Get in there, work hard and cash out the biggest commission check you can.

Depends on management. One team was in someone got riffed and was told do nothing just keep in touch. Another team was in management didn't care you work till end. My understanding is management is supposed to give you time to search jobs.
But it management discretion

If you're part of the RIF, do you still get retirement benefits if you're retirement eligible?

@a3 , unless something has changed, they don’t do exit interviews for folks who are laid off. I was laid off three years ago and I had some questions for HR. They basically wanted nothing to do with me at that point. So I doubt they would give a damn what feedback a laid off person would have

Depends on org and role. Some are told they're done right then and there and some are told they need to work till the official last day.

@OP when I got let go in early 2023 I was expected to continue to work for the 30 days but was told to wfh. When a close personal friend of mine was laid off they were paid through the last day and did not have to come into the office anymore this was back in 2021 Everyone impacted was mainly trying to secure roles and minimal work was done. Early last year a peer on my team was let go and he was told to not continue working as he chose not to look for internal roles. Another peer of mine who took vsp last year was expected to work through his last day and that he did. I think with vsp it’s a requirement to continue to work. In retail when they close stores they don’t usually close them right then and there … they remain open for quite some time and then the reps are given a final work date. It just depends on your role , the need and if you are planning on staying or going. Most managers are empathetic to you but who knows this time around

Usually you are given the rest of the day Thursday and Friday off and then yes, expected to work until the end
