Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Why Germany and France had no layoffs ?

I find it discriminatory that Germany and France had no layoffs in 2025 while all other locations had to layoff people.

SAP didn't provide any explanation...

It's not against our German and French colleagues but I think we deserve an explanation from SAP on the reason behind this decision.

We had a Voluntary Leave + Early Retirement Plan in France, April 2024-April 2025.
I took it, so since April 12 2025 and until June 30 2026 SAP is paying me 80% of my salary for not working at all.
Considering what former colleagues are telling me about reorgs etc, I do not complain.

Nothing to do with government pressure and everything to do with labour laws as the first response pointed out. In France, you simply cannot be fired once you’ve made it past 2 years of employment. The governments of both countries were smart - they don’t want the financial burden of looking after a citizen shifted from the private sector to the government because of the employers’ poor planning or desire to relocate jobs to low cost countries / which is why layoffs occur. So you’ll rarely see layoffs in France, Germany or Sweden, but you will in US and U.K.

@fp complete BS...if that was the case everybody in FR will leave at the same time and nobody will be there to turn off the light and close the door 😀

Many people in France who agreed to leave were given over €1m+ packages.

The countries have exceedingly strong labour laws making it much harder to lay people off. They have a much longer and binding consultancy period and can be taken to court if they are seen to be outsourcing roles when they are turning a profit. As such when the board runs out of ideas on how to engineer an increase in the stock price they go elsewhere with less stringent labour legislation like the USA and India
