Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Many Being Laid off Today from Optum

If you go over to the Optum Layoff threads you will see that many are being notified today for layoff and as to their last day, which appears to be in January.

Not me but one poster over there posted the following, which I thought was interesting and seems to sound very familiar.

•••
"We already have openings in India to replace people we let go from our team today. This is offshoring." -- This is true and will continue because all at the top has their own bottom line at the expense of employees here is USA, unless government put some check balances these greedy corporate will not stop.“

I bet Prime Minister Narendra Modi is rubbing his hands together regarding all the money his government will take in from American Health Insurance companies. And I know from research that India does a lot of trade with Russia. And a lot of Indian workers work in Arab countries that hate Americans.

@w5 I know it's a popular subject, bashing DJ Trump or Joe Biden for our woes. The truth is ALL of the politicians have silently agreed to American jobs being staffed overseas. The Government has little power in telling companies what to do but when they are getting money from Government contracts, that power increases.

We are facing a 1920s style wipe-out of jobs in the health insurance industry. The combination of outsourcing and Ai is going to lay waste to American jobs in the Health insurance industry. What are politicians doing about it? Nothing. They should all be out there demanding that companies living off the US dime should be prioritizing US employment. We hear about a 'universal basic income" to offset the loss of jobs due to Ai but is anyone getting That?

Don't be fooled by Democrat v Republican debate. They are ALL failing us and we need to stick together on these issues. Demand change and demand that American $$$$ is spent in America, This is not just Humana but every Health insurance company in the country. Please stick together on this. Don't be fooled by the left/right debate.. They have both failed us. Write your Senators and Congressmen and tell them to put a stop to this.

@w3 …and please STOP offending the United States of this America’s workforce!

We fought very hard for our life and liberties and to be a free society nation. And we are not ready to just give those up to foreign countries that care nothing about America and want to hollow out America from the inside out.

Take your foreign worker movement to some other country. You already did this to Canada, which I personally saw started back in the late 1990’s. Travel to Toronto today and see what I am talking about.

@w2 You and I aren’t the ones making those decisions. Let’s be clear — nobody here mentioned “smart.” Don’t turn this into a conversation about IT being outsourced because they’re looking for smarter people. That’s not the case, and honestly, it’s a little offensive. Knowing IT doesn’t automatically make someone smart, and outsourcing isn’t driven by talent. It’s driven by cost.

These jobs aren’t rocket science. If real estate and infrastructure costs in the Philippines or Canada end up being cheaper, the work will go there. And that shift isn’t far off.

@w0 Sorry but ridiculous for anyone to assume that outsourcing is more “resilient” and also ridiculous to assume that Indian or China workers or any foreign country for that matter are smarter or better workers than US citizens.

@vt In the last year, our Prez has taken more positive action in reversing all of the damage that the Dems did the prior 4 years.

Removing illegals, seeking to bring jobs back to US, and also brokering deals with foreign countries we kind of have no choice to do so, such as China’s govt, only because Dems started this whole global economy thing around Clinton’s time.

It is obvious you and I have completely different philosophies on how a Government and Country should be ran. And, hey, that is okay. I am not that adamant, when it comes to politics, sports, or most things really. But I will speak up occasionally when I see someone trying to say comments that sway folks but really are not true.

Anyway, have a great day!

@aj Look, here's the deal: Hiring global talent, leveraging cutting-edge analytics, cloud solutions, and IT infrastructure—that was all part of the hook to bring in foreign workers and sweet-talk stakeholders.
But with all the back-and-forth on tariffs, and the confusion over basic stuff like traditional policing and economic policy, CEOs and stakeholders have just lost faith. I'm hearing this straight from credible sources.
Frankly, a lot of them are completely losing confidence in the economy for next year and are getting ready for a recession that feels a lot like the 2006-2007 timeframe.
To protect their balance sheets and keep the lights on if things go south, they're shedding the dead weight here and outsourcing to build a more resilient, continuous business model.
Again, I'm not pointing fingers at any administration or trying to bash outsourcing. If you really want to know what's going on, that's the real story. Everything we're seeing now is just a reaction to what's unfolded in the last few months.

Outsourcing going wild ……..
Outsourcing used to be a cost-cutting trick. Now it’s corporate America’s obsession. Entire departments—tech, finance, customer service—are vanishing overseas in the name of “efficiency.”

Shareholders cheer the savings, but the long-term cost is invisible: hollowed-out companies, fading culture, and workers treated like interchangeable parts. The new model isn’t about collaboration; it’s about disconnection.

Yes, global talent matters. But when every job is up for auction to the lowest bidder, what’s left of loyalty, innovation, or pride in the work? In chasing short-term gains, corporate America risks outsourcing not just its labor—but its soul.

Wake up Humana! Most of your nurse review work has been off shored to the Philippines and recent centralization is the next step. Eventually all of the Medicare inpatient work will also go there. Don’t believe me? Ok, just wait a few years. All been in motion over past 10 years!

@a3
It seems like this would be a National Security Issue or at least of a concern.

It is like giving the keys to the hen house to the fox AND moving the hen house within the fox’s den.

I just read this post on Optum layoff page one of the threads where people are being let go today.

“ •••
Yes they will sent to India to have physiotherapists review usa medical records in India your PHI going all over illegally.”

Now that is disturbing as to the PHI data mishandling.

When is everyone going to wake up to the fact that outsourcing to foreign countries is a extremely bad idea?!
