Thread regarding Optum layoffs

OI - optum town hall

Looks like they want to replace a lot of claims positions and coding roles with this new AI system Optum Real?

@e4+1k83nh8dh. US healthcare has been on fumes for more than a decade. It will limp along since really what is the alternative. Medicare for all be very careful what you wish for. Same evil empire processes all those claims. You think there is a shortage of doctors now just wait when they all have to play in the medicare space. Most will tap out of the medicare factory. Then healthcare will truly be a commodity and when a service is commodified the value drops like a stone. Hopr you dont die before that appointment in 6 mos

Did anyone else notice in the replay that they cropped out the awkward mother-in-law comment? lol That makes it even more uncomfortable.

Senior citizen kane with his 10 grandkids knows that the only way this company will be saved is when the spendthrifts who were splurging on medicare are back in power in 2028. Till then expect more of these dog and pony shows as the snake oil salesman, candyman, dazzles everyone every quarter with some fake revolutionary product right around the earnings call while laying off thousands. Real is at best a prior auth solution that will never be adopted by providers in any meaningful, and you will stop hearing about this next quarter, when they roll out another fake half-baked so called AI solution to fool investors. This is the MO these guys will follow till medicare funding resumes. Thats why candyman is still around.

Every group and area along with positions will be affected by AI over the next 5 yrs and future. It may not rid of them all but teams will get drastically reduced. The % is the only question.

If you are a coder, you are on borrowed time. AI is a death nail to this position.

@a3 yeah…. Wellmed claims are a mess and soooooo behind on the times. I am not surprised they are rolling something like this out.

Surprisingly rational use case for generative AI, and reasonable chance of success.

What does it mean by "claims positions"?

What kind of role would be removed by this?

Not surprised at all tbh. Claims might not be effected yet but it will happen soon.
