Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Where the heck did this 6hr thing come from?

I do not understand.

A standard work day is 8 hrs. Why all of a sudden are people so stuck on 6 hrs in the office? Shouldn’t it be 8?

Since when have we ever had a 6 hr workday?

OP here, Listen, I am all about a work life balance. But just because you have kids doesn’t mean that your day should get cut short every day to pick up your kids when I am working a full day and have to manage making arrangements for my kids. All while working 8 hours a day, remote from home with no hub near me.

Work life balance is making exceptions, being flexible for things that come up. Not for every day responsibilities.

Come on, you all really need to grow the f up.

@a8 “just pay $10-15k per kid” is your solution to leadership changing the rules and moving the goal posts to negatively impact employees lives? Lol ok

@a7 If this is true then it needs to be communicated in some way. Previously 3+ days per week was the spirit of the law, but 11 days per month was the letter of the law. At least if you followed the spirit then you would be following the letter. If 6+ hours is now the letter, then they need to say 8 hours as the spirit, not that they aren't tracking total time.

@a8 not everyone can afford to pay for extra time. You realize that a lot of people didn't get raises right? I'm glad you've been able to make it work but not everyone has the means or a village to help them.

@a6 I’ve raised kids working 8-5 and making it work. It was called pay for daycare and after school care.

@a4 it isn't though. I've heard directly from the mouth of a leader that it's 6 hours even if the FAQ says it's not tracked.

@a2 you clearly don't have kids with pickup and dropoff schedules. If school doesn't start until 830 and pickup is at 2, and you have a 30-45 minute commute from school to work that REALLY puts a cramp in how many hours people can spend in an office.

The world changed during COVID. Bus routed were shut off, businesses have limited hours. What this place is doing is the exact opposite of how the rest of society is working and THAT is the problem. It's not supportive of employees or work/life balance.

It was a purposeful but if misinformation communicated to a select group of people to track the spread of disinformation via rumor sites.

For starters, many of us were hired years ago as remote/work from home employees, long before the pandemic. The bank arbitrarily decided we must start working from a corporate location (even if nobody from our team is there) if we were within a certain commuting radius. So we restructured things to accommodate and comply, with some flexibility needed. For example, take 6:30-9am or 10am meetings from home, then commute in for part of the day. We made it work. Full 8-10 hour days, with 11+ of them in office for part of the day. Now that in office part must apparently be at least 6 hours or it doesn't count. The flexibility for salaried exempt employees to structure their time using professional judgement about how to accomplish agreed upon goals and objectives was taken away and people are not treated like hourly shift workers. In the minds of many of us, this is demonstration of failed, weak senior leadership.

I’m amazed how many people on the other thread even think it’s ok or that this was “approved” to come in for 2-4 hours a day while they are in office. Clearly you are the reason this 6.5 hours has been implemented.
