Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

When does this stop?

The constant fear of layoffs has ruined my weekends. I'm not even happy it's Friday, since I spend the whole time dreading Monday morning. I need to know if we'll ever get back to a normal work environment without this constant stress hanging over us. Enough is enough.

@mn What no one else seems to be mentioning is that T-Mobile had two large mergers in less than 5 years. This latest merger or buyout of US Cellular sank their ship they were doing too much to quickly.

@mn Looking at the Executive Leadership Team for their origins, It's no longer TMO vs. Sprint/Clearwire. There's refugees from ATT, Bharti, Vodafone, Stellantis, Amazon, the FCC, companies in Financial Services, Consulting firms, Nokia, Ericsson, etc.

It's now a mish mash of junk.

@vm That book was required reading for Managers in the Change Management courses we did at T-Mobile. I found it to be yet another level of new age management BS the execs at TMO were selling and continue to sell.

A friend of mine worked at T-Mobile and was a part of the large 2023 layoff. He mentioned recently that his manager had given their team a book about how to cope with change. It's called Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. I purchased a copy and read it, and I highly recommend it to anyone that is dealing with change in their lives, not just work related. It will help you with the stress of not knowing what the future holds, with good examples of what works and what doesn't. Good luck on your journey, whether you remain with T-Mobile or a new door opens for you and you somewhere else. :)

@mn what are you talking about? It’s well known Sprint had a lot of layoffs. You can argue that they did it with more dignity and while openly failing as a company. T-Mobile is simply doing it for more profits.

@bg This hot mess is not legacy Sprint. Its an immature company that didnt "grow" into its big boy pants and is struggling to deal with its large presence in the market. There were not constant layoffs at sprint - the longevity in careers proves the same.

Wonder what it will take for some of you to stop blaming Sprint. Especially when all of this is and has been happening with leadership being legacy TMO and the new people they've brought onboard over the last several years. Get real!

@fh When I was there, I submitted multiple questions to the AMA, or Ask Mikey, or Ask john meetings. They only pre-chose questions/people who were bootlickers and whose questions fit the narrative of the day.

Instead of wasting your time fearing the inevitable, start getting applications out.

@bp at this point I'm riding this out to the bitter end. When it's my time it's my time.

This stops when you get off the ride. Stop giving the carnival your tickets. Whether you worked at T-Mobile or Sprint, they both played the layoff game, pre and post merger. You are familiar with the aroma! What you are doing is contributing to an early death by continuing to participate in the semi-annual stress spike. GET.OFF.THE.RIDE!!!

I get it. The money is nice. Who you work with is cool…but is this rinse and repeat nonsense worth your peace of mind?

There is better - there is adventure, there is capital, there is growth. This probably falls on deaf ears, and excuse makers will come out of the woodwork, but you are a valuable asset. Do not let these je-ks that couldn’t balance a checkbook direct your life. If they want you, they’ll chase you. But they’re not. They are looking for the next best thing. So…go and find someone that knows your value.

Best of luck. Keep grinding!

leave the telco industry. If you are good leave it. leave it. Then the companies won't see any phones and nobody will switch to other plans. Just leave and don't come back. Good people leave. Bad people stay

Have faith and do your best to stay positive. Do your best to not let anxiety about the future steal happiness from the present.

It’s never going to stop. Legacy T-Mobile does not exist anymore. I’m in the same boat as you. I can’t even enjoy the weekends anymore but that’s the new reality. We are the new Sprint where layoffs are a constant thing and people just get immune to it.

It really su-ks this company went downhill quick after the merger.

Don't worry about it on Friday. Have a nice weekend, and worry on Monday as they do layoffs on Tuesdays.

Here was my question to the “AMA,” but it did not pass the review:

“You are a non-U.S. Citizen leading the largest telecommunications company in the United States. You are laying off and outsourcing significant numbers of American jobs and replacing them with your own countrymen. Why should we want you here, respect you, or care about anything you have to say?”

Some AMA.
