Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Why would 3/31 be the date?

Doing layoffs on a Tuesday after a payday? I keep seeing it reiterated by people on Reddit

@da Based on past layoffs, yes, it usually come in waves, span across couple weeks. When the layoff amount is this large, 10-15k, across most orgs, it's difficult to complete them in a couple days.

@cz if layoffs happens next week, so it will take couple of weeks to end?

3/31 is the last date they have to fill the WARN act, thus notify people about the layoff. It won't all happen on that day. Likely it will start next week.
WARN act requires a company to notify employees 60 days ahead. Since Q4 ends in May, they have to notify people by 3/31.

I agree it doesn't make sense, but the only thing is March 31 is the last day of Q1.

@af,
Don't put too much relevance into WARN notices - they only apply to layoffs of staff that work in the office (establishment). Since COVID a lot of folks WFH.

@OP Oracle filed 15 warn notices for CA, AL, WA locations in 2025. Of those 15, all but one had a layoff date that fell on a Monday. The 1 odd ball was on a Wed.

Have you checked your change freeze dates? Keeping you out from places you can do no harm when/if you are getting RIFd

Most companies do layoffs at the end of the week so there is a weekend right after. It has the least impact to those who survived and business goes on as usual on Monday.
