Any folks experienced the process of being impacted while on vacation? How would you know?

Speaking from experience, I was on vacation when my teammates were texting me that RIFs were happening. I happened to have my work phone with me. There were several invites that were scheduled and rescheduled from my AD on my calendar. The person was not even aware I was out of office on vacation even though I had my out of office notification on.
I called the AD on Thursday afternoon when the RIFs were going on. He wanted to wait until I got back in the office on the upcoming Monday. But, I pressed the issue to learn that I was on the RIF list.
Long story short, I was able to land on another team in the 30 days. The AD eventually took the next VSP package and left the company.
I just got call stating there's a cut. It was from VZ customer service stating I'm part of a fiber cut ourage.
Yes I noticed that too but if their names were mentioned in the no rif meeting, they're safe.

During a 2023 RIF, my peer actually got the call on her personal phone while on vacation
