No matter how much I get done, there’s always more waiting. I clear one thing and two more show up. It’s constant. I don’t feel like I ever get ahead, just slightly less behind. This is what happens when so many people leave and the rest of us are expected to pick up after them.

Please join the networks team - they never used to do anything in good old days. Now a days they do scoott
It feels wrong. But I stopped attending meetings that get randomly shoved in any slot going. Typically lunch time or after 5pm. Which I used to find annoying because it's my meal times they are taking over. Not just mine. My whole family. But guess what, nobody asks where you are. If they need you they reschedule.
More time was spent on meetings and paperwork than doing. No wonder people say they are swamped. Step back. They carry on paying.
They want you to quit. But it's better they decide you are surplus. They can't say do more with no rises. Watch your colleagues who do less. They are still here!
Solution is simple. Update your resume, look for jobs and pass the interview and get the offer and resign asap
Stop trying to win an unwinnable game.
The system is rigged so no one can keep up. It is designed to cause burnout.
They expect you to leave with burnout and without a severance.
Here is how you avoid burnout: Work at your most comfortable pace. Take your time on assignments. Collect your paycheck. Block ample focus and training time on your calendar. Enjoy a relaxed workday from home. 'Accidentally' stay in meetings after they end to keep your status "Busy". Use all available company resources for trainings and certifications. Polish your resume, LinkedIn profile and apply for better paying roles elsewhere. Make every workday about growing your certification list, finding a better job elsewhere or running your side hustle if you already have one or doing whatever you enjoy. Never work overtime. Never exhaust yourself to meet a deadline. Let the backlog grow. It is not a personal failure. Let others follow up with you at least once before you respond, even if you are finished.
@a1 Regardless if the job is being done or not they won't hire more people. Not unless the clients says we need you to hire more people and we will give you more money because there are more staff. Then they will hire at probably above market rates and just pass the costs on. Then sometime later let people go again, but continue to bill at the new rates.
Repetitive tasks should have been automated long ago. But they won't invest in the systems to do it. So we're still here setting up accounts and all the work still transacted on emails.
They are counting on it. As long as the job is being done, there is no need for them to hire more people. Things just need NOT ti be done in order for them to notice. Just do your job, in your own time. Nothing extra. And NEVER tell you have already finished.
