Amazon did the same 2 months ago. Laid off USCs/GC and saved H1bs
The whole big tech is doing same.
In my team all USCs and GC holders were laid off as we have an Indian manager.
yet again oracle laid off 10000 American workers and retained cheaper under qualified H1
All thanks to indian managers who only hire indians

Oracle uses cheap F1, L1 transfers visas instead of H1Bs to avoid paying $100K fees, and still replaces US citizens
I know more than 10 H1Bs who got affected today. It’s not about H1B, it’s all about AI and debt.
Just BS.
There is no $100K fee for L1 visa transfer; so they can always bring them over and replace US citizens
So far, 13 H-1B's I know are impacted, USC's aren't yet, we'll know more in the next round this noon
If the manager is from India and has a say in who stays, then those on H1B will be saved, especially if they are from the same area. Good luck proving it in a court of law. Larry has deep pockets and a direct line to Trump and members of Congress.
My team experienced a similar situation where several seasoned, high-performing individuals were displaced while a relatively new, higher-cost team member on an H1B visa was retained. It was suggested that the difficulty of securing external sponsorship influenced this decision. This highlights how personal advocacy from leadership and unique team dynamics often play a decisive role in retention.
@a3 You aren’t familiar with how H1b is sponsored and works then. If you are already inside physically in the US then you don’t need to pay the filing fee, e.g. F1 Visa or spouse of H1b. But if you are outside of the US physically then there is a $100,000 filing fee. So Oracle is not going to bring more Indians from India to the US on H1b. Sorry.
@a1 Of course Oracle doesn’t hire H1-B outside US, as they are issued to work in US.
Not True . In my team H1b’s got fired and citizens were not impacted .
Oracle is not hiring more H1b outside of the United States. Oracle needs money for AI. They don’t want to pay the $100,000 H1b filing fee. Sorry your friends are at risk losing their status :(
