How Dell with actually profit from the new H1-B visa rules.

Let's turn back the clock a bit. Around ten years ago Dell laid off a lot of long time employees. Employees who had worked for the company for 15 years or more. As you would expect after 15 years, these were very well paid employees across all skill workers.

Dell was still a growing company and could have offered other roles to these employees. However Dell let them go. Needing a wealth of new employees Dell turned to India and the new hires received the kind of lower wages that new employee (performing the same job) would get as opposed to a long time employee.

Now here we are in 2025. Those H1-B hires are now in their tenth year. Through annual raises they are now a bigger hit to OPEX. Now comes Trump's new H1-B policy. So now Dell gets to layoff veteran and costly H1-B and blame it on the new H1-B policy. But now they simply run the same gambit of laying of veteran employees for new lower paid replacement and look innocent free.

It's like in that movie The Sting. Never let your mark know they were stung.

The thing is is that, those in India don't do any job "better" or that they are "smarter" or anything like that. It's that they are dirt cheap to employee. An underqualified foreign person is cheaper than highering a very qualified person in the US.
It's not about quality of work or quality of employee when it comes to hiring those in India (or China) but purely the cost of how MUCH it is to employee them - which again, is next to nothing in terms of USD.

Companies who choose to hire overseas NEED to pay a price for doing so.

idk but it'd be nice to not have damn near every job offshored to India or China... I don't know the details or depth of how all this works but I do know that the US needs to stop offshoring Tech Support and Developers. I work with Devs on a daily basis and they ALL work in the US and live here (they literally have to in FED.)

But like, in the past when I worked w/ devs in India, it's just a nightmare overall. Starting with the obvious time difference... Which that alone is a massive pain in the buttt; then the fact that so many of them have broken english WITH a heavy Indian accent, it makes it extremely difficult to understand them, what they need/want, and etc...

On the tech support side, having worked tech support for many many many years; we follow a script for the most part. Depending on the answers to the scripted questions we then go to certain KB's for answers. And that continues on until a resolution is found. Problem is that customers who call in can't understand wtf tech support is even asking them to do...

The other issue is that India is one of the largest base for scammers. It's actually the number one country where Frauds/scams come out of in the entire world. So, who's to say you are even talking to a legitimate Tech Support person to begin with?

All in all, I think companies NEED to pay 100k per foreign employee if they are not a US citizen - and yes, I think this should apply to green card/visa holders as well.

Exactly, but most of them eventually return to their home countries. Many struggle with adapting to U.S. culture, and in countries like India, you can live on just $1 a day. The higher wages they earn in the U.S. allow them to support their families and contribute to development back home. It's a win/win situation for them.

H1-B is initially for three years then renewable for three more. Then that is it.
