Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Voluntary Layoffs, 2018 Vibes

If this is just an HR plan update, why couldn't they just update the HR manual quietly and not send out a freaking email to give everyone anxiety?

"You aren't affected now, but you may be in the future....one day!"

I'm having 2018 ET flashbacks throws up in mouth

@ad neither.
Overstaffed roles within functions - doesn’t have to be all areas with a department.

If there’s a lot of people in your area with not enough work to do on a pretty consistent basis, that’s a good indicator of being included in the realignment plan.

these dei comments ki-l me. so I guess MT was a DEI hire who hollowed out out professional claims force and made disasterous decisions that made the company hemorrhage billions. do I have that right?

I have been a level 4-5 employee for nearly 39 years and love my job, my team, and my first and second tier leadership.
Not making a disgruntled post. I have seen first hand some bad DEI leadership positions in past few years and people in high places making really bad decisions that have eroded profitability and combined ratios.
There has never been such a disconnect between the tinkers and the do’ers in nearly 30 tears of service as if they truly don’t know what they are doing and keep repeating the same cycle expecting different outcomes which is the definition of insanity

@ad overstaffed areas.
If impacted, anyone can take the voluntary option but there’s enhanced option for those with longer tenure combined with age. So if someone is close to retiring, they walk away with greater payout. It’s much better than past involuntary option.

Couple of desperado recent retireeze could have made out better if they had stayed a little longer and hadn’t slipped off to South America before their full retirement age. They should have stayed in in the loop and kept dibs on the people that set this up.

Read the info in the links provided - there’s a lot there.
They are improving the benefits for employees and shifting to a voluntary approach first. The transparency is a lot better for employees than in the past. The common timing (across departments) allows for a more strategic approach to reassignments and for some to apply to other openings.

Some teams were told today that they’ll be impacted but departments can still submit plans for another week or so.

@aa if they are talking about how much AI is going to improve efficiency in your department then you will be impacted. The two biggest departments are Claims then underwriting. Yes, you will be impacted in underwriting and because you are remote it likely means you have some tenure. That's all 3 strikes right there.

People are lucky, they could have been HCL’d by someone like me

So any idea what departments are targeted? Im in Underwriting and not in a hub? Would that make me more susceptible to being let go?

I wish their email would have just layed it out as far as people and departments instead of being so vague.

Target is over 25 years tenure and $100 k salary. If you live in that space pack your bags.

@a1 The claim segment/demand I work in is horrendously undertaffed already, today and right now. They will reduce the workforce to bare bones capacity? The bare bones are already grinding into a pile of dust! They are assigning between 8-12 new claim assigments to every specialist every day. Su-ks for whoever is lucky enough to survive what's coming I guess.

@a1 Bingo. The critical factor lies in the strategic deployment of language. This approach enables a business unit, perceived as overstaffed or otherwise identified for reduction, to implement downsizing effectively, irrespective of the underlying rationale.

The last time they updated the HR manual quietly, it was prepping for HCL rebadging. That did not go over all that well.

Feel this will be how they "push" more tenure, older Employees out. No choice. Horrible how it says they work with employees .. no
This is not to work without and make things better. Who's gonna be eating Crow?. This email should not have gone out to everyone. Management should have it then allow time to digest. Unreal. The wording. No no no

It’s not just an HR update, this is your first heads up that they are about to do a mass lay off. You’ll be given the option to voluntarily leave with benefits and then the second round will be be involuntary with a select few staying to run the ship bare bones. They will reduce workforce to bare bones capacity.
