The traditional 9-to-5 is being replaced by the ‘infinite workday’

this was an article "The traditional 9-to-5 is being replaced by the ‘infinite workday’". For those of you at WF, do you find that the company wants you to RTO and to work off hours from home.

Working off hours, for hourly employees, is the literal definition of wage theft. It’s still HIGHLY illegal, FYI. If you’re not compensated for your time and your manager is heaping expectations on you to remain available and on call without paying you, then it’s grounds for a he-l of a lawsuit. Ignorance of the law isn’t a defense in a court room.🤷🏻

Yes. I am expected to have Outlook/Teams on my phone and respond during evenings and weekends. I am never not reachable and this is an expectation.

I got laid off from somewhere that I absolutely busted my butt and it has changed my perspective of corporate america. This company will get 40 hours of hard work from me, but that's it. Especially with RTO, no way this company gets more of the little personal time I have.

I don't feel bad for people who work off the clock, because the onus is on the person to control their own work life balance. If workload becomes too high ask your manager to prioritize and get done what I can. Frankly if some things can't get done that's the manager and company's problem. If it gets too bad leave.

Also, some people who are online at night are still working 8 hour days. Maybe someone works 9-3 because they have to pick up their kids from school (and then logs in a few hours at night to finish up work). How you get your 8 hours shouldn't matter.

On days I go into the office, I pretty much won’t work any more once I go home unless I didn’t put in a full 8 at the office. On my remote days, I’ll work longer than 8 hours if needed, or sometimes even if not needed but I’m just in a groove and don’t want to break momentum. So they can take their pick on what they prefer.
