Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

Lay offs in Spokane and seattle

Just got laid off this morning with no warning, completely shut out of all systems. I was at an oncologist appointment when the termination meeting started. Myself and my team also training a new team outside of the US on how to do our job the last 2 weeks. Been at the company for many years and now I'm gone.

@16s "just" and "some" - two words that show how ignorant people are

@fw hardware is easy. any one can put hardware together. Just need some components and a soldering iron.

that sounds incredibly tough being laid off with no notice, during a medical appointment, after years at the company, and while training replacements. I just want to gently flag that if you were in the middle of oncology treatment or other medical care, this situation could potentially raise questions around disability discrimination.

it might be worth consulting an employment lawyer to better understand your options. Many offer free initial consultations, and they can tell you whether what happened to you could fall under protections in your state

Anyone else hear in the town hall about doubling down on hardware and how important hardware is to F5? But then trying to reconcile that with the fact that people who are critical to the hardware roadmap’s success, were terminated the day before.

I'm hearing the final count is around 225. 150 US mostly in Seattle, 70 India, and handful sprinkled everywhere else, remote, EMEA, etc.

@OP was your whole team/product affect that you know of?

@b9 most of the architects and leadership who were responsible have already left (i.e. "pivoted") over the last year. Hardly anyone left who could be considered directly culpable, except for the French guy, and he's just a talking head. Having people who might be directly responsible for the dumpster fire was the only thing keeping Next alive. They already sacked Sacchi and Kara.

It's pretty neat that the stock price is so high but we just gotta lay off people. Love how much value I added for shareholders, now I'll go respectfully eff off

How come none of the VPs and architects responsible for this state are impacted?

Got laid off as well. Su-ks, but let’s stay stong and keep moving on. Especially those like me on work visa. Hussle up!

@aj Every morning I wake up and wonder what's going to happen. And regrettably it keeps getting answered. I thought recovering from surgery would be my only concern. I guessed wrong....

Woke up to hearing our teams abroad got cut massively, then 20 minutes later got put into a call with over 100 people in the US (pre-recorded...) where we all got laid off. Seemed like the whole Next team and maybe some collateral?

Did not wake up with this in mind, but now it is time to process it.

Good luck to all of us in this economy and current tech space of moving too fast to keep employees of so much talent.

They already cut many of the core TMOS experts back when they said TMOS was dead and NEXT was everything. Not sure how they will go forward from here? Just assume new devs with AI tools can understand the code and execute their re-dedication to TMOS?

@a6 I heard it's way more than 123, could be in the hundreds. Lots of folks in India (good riddance), but others don't make any sense. Next is cancelled for hardware and VE, finally. But people on the hardware and TMOS side cut too. Clearly cutting for cost - more senior people with more tenure cut first. Probably will be followed by a huge round of hiring SE1 like 2018, or maybe this time just AI replacement

@a3 sorry to hear you were affected. It's truly unfair. Many of those who were terminated were the hardest workers I knew with decades of experience. Look into potential unemployment benefits if you can to help give you more time to figure out what to do. Sorry again, unfortunately can relate.

@a5 around 97 for Seattle, mostly managers, principal engineers, SE 2 or higher, 8 in Spokane, and 17 remote. 123 if I'm counting right, something around there. So many people I worked with and knew were hard workers too. Like the guy who interviewed me and was my team lead for my first 2 years got laid off, and he would do zoom meetings while driving his family to regular hospital treatments.

Feels like the execs don’t have a clue how much they just hurt the company. Good and much needed talent shown the door.
