Seems like their lawyers told them to change the wording because the “8 hours in office” expectation could cause issues with the whole exempt vs. non-exempt employee thing. Now, they’re saying the expectation is to be in the office for a “full day,” which supposedly allows for more “flexibility.”
They said they’re not tracking time down to the minute and haven’t defined what exactly counts as a “full day” that would keep you off the report but there is definitely going to be a line. And again, they said if something regularly keeps you from being in the office a full day, you’ll need to submit an accommodation. For one-offs, you need to get approval or let your manager know.
To me, it still sounds like they want us in for 8 hours, they’re just rephrasing it to stay out of trouble and have plausible deniability. And let’s be honest, they wouldn’t be changing the language unless they knew they were doing something wrong.
It feels a lot like the old sales pressure days… same kind of pressure, just repackaged and still deceptive.
Anyway, keep speaking up cause it seems like we’re being heard or read.
