Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

What if..

What if I put in for vsp and got denied because boss felt like saying no. Another round of layoffs come and there’s no enhanced benefit but now I really get laid off. I got sc--wed out of the first one because somebody decided not to approve me. Can’t I fight to get that since I volunteered for it in the first place?

If denied for VSP, they’ll get my 2 weeks notice right away. Simple as that.

@e3 I agree. The company is too heavy and way too many managers and directors and VP. One director quit Friday. Have no idea why.

@dt my manager said 20%-25%. I was advised different business areas have different targets. 30%-40% of the total workforce would be beyond insane, considering their last mass layoff (2023), was 6% I believe. if anything, maybe it's 30%-40% of the payroll?

I think they plan to flatten the organization. I think they will go from VP - Sr Dir - Dir - Sr Mgr - Mgr - IC to VP - Sr Dir or Dir - Sr Mgr or Mgr - IC in a lot of areas.

@dt Think maybe the person might be confused about the percentage. I have read that they expect enrollment to drop between 30-40% in ACA marketplace. Pair with that the loss of federal funding & contract loss for Medicaid - it just leads to more layoffs regardless.

@db Curious where you get the 30-40%. My manager said 15-20 I know no one knows.

@ba This is not true. They can and absolutely will involuntarily lay people off even if they deny the VSP especially if you are in an at will state. They have stated layoffs will occur in August after the VSP closes and the projected amount of workforce to RIF is 30-40%. They won't do it all at once to avoid having to report to the WARN - so it will be in waves. Read paragraph 3 under **IMPORTANT NOTICE. While getting laid off in and of itself is bad - giving people false hope that they are not a potential target for involuntary layoffs resulting in them not having the opportunity to try to prepare just because they deny your application is wrong and cruel. The question is will you be on that list and no one can answer that. Nothing like spending the duration of employment everyday fearing you might be axed at any moment.

If they deny your VSP request, they will not lay you off. That will set them up for a legal case.

From my understanding, your leader is not approving your VSP application, the company is. There is a dedicated transformation team handling these layoffs and they know which departments and teams are going to be cut based upon the numbers and reports provided from senior leadership. It’s not individualized. I trust the HR source whom provided this information.

@OP What first time? Sarah, claimed they never did this before. Was it at another company you are speaking of?

@OP we can go in what ifs all day. As others have stated the only way they will deny is if too many apply for 1 dept but we can fear all day long too. I feel ya.
