Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Receiving a meeting invite for this Thursday a full week in advance is super stressful.

@bq When you see managers of a "certain" type getting promoted, you know they are being propped up to manage people from another "country". In a couple of years, they will be a director if you keep an eye.

People stress as if the future isn't clear. It is clear. Cisco is moving roles and entire BUs out of North America. When all your new coworkers are sourced exclusively from India and Eastern Europe contractors...when your reporting chain detours through Bangalore...what is the mystery? In my group, even the interns are from India now.

We can't compete. No amount of awesome effort or skill you bring to the table matters to the software-maintenance work Cisco wants...they can get "good enough" from India for $25k a year.

When I started at Cisco, all of my coworkers were full-time in North America. Now, it is about 50/50 with Indian and Eastern European contractors (not even full-time Cisco employees).

A week in advance? Earnings are 5/13 and that’s when they announce an LR. Followed by a meeting the next day. There isn’t a week delay.

Check your managers calendar for how busy their day is after your meeting. Most managers I know with people impacted are having those conversations in the early AM, and then taking the rest of the day or afternoon off. After a heavy morning of delivering bad news, I’m not going to feel like working.

If your manager is doing the same, the cleared calendar might be a clue that you are getting notified.
