If someone is on a PIP and gets laid-off today, do they get severance? Cobra?

The trend is to terminate (fire for cause) those on a PIP or with multiple IM ratings (example: mid year and end of year back to back). No severance will be offered in those situations and the company saves a lot of money.
Severance is being reserved for those who are decent performers whose role is eliminated due to location strategy or cost saves.
It's going to get worse as the year progresses.
You may get your state unemployment benefits. If you are terminated due to inability to do the job . You should ask them the reason and eligible for state unemployment

If they're PIPing you, you're not getting a layoff, you're getting terminated
Being laid off is completely different than being fired for performance. If you got laid off you qualify for the usual package.
