In a meeting someone stated something factually incorrect. Not an opinion, a fact. I gently pointed out the error with evidence and you would have thought I insulted their mother. The room went freezing cold, and later I was told I need to work on my social skills. What they meant was, don't correct people. Don't point out problems. Don't be right if being right makes someone uncomfortable. So basically, even if I'm right, even if the error will cost us, I should keep my mouth shut. lesson learned. From now on all I'll do is smile, nod, and let the sh-t hit the fan later on.

@106- this is actually very good advice. Wish I'd met you sooner!
This company has always been who you know over what you know. Good to learn early if you can. Shut up, be along for the ride and don't let them know you're smart or they'll just use you and keep you as low as possible.
i got raked over the coals by some country-bumpkin loser exec for simply repeating out loud at a dinner what every one already knew and discusses regularly about another person on his team. She was one of those "Does Nothing Favorites" who got all the perks.
I simply asked him directly, "And what are her role and responsibilities any way".
The exec LUNGED across the table at me, all red-faced and sputtering, yelling loudly in the quiet restaurant our table of 8 was in and gave me an earful. Slammed his beer on the table and stomped out. Our mains had not even been served yet.
I thought I was going to be fired straightaway. The rest of the table was shocked at his reaction, and were reassuring to me.
Nothing ever happened really, except he would glare at me at every meeting from then onward.
Lived 2 years under his evil thumb until he was reassigned.
So many leaders like him in this place (male and female). For G0d's sake, WHY and How on Earth are they still here and last so long?!?
@OP Not the first time I’ve heard this. I wouldn’t be surprised if that person is taking all the credit for research by others but failed to proof read and got nailed in front of a group LOL . Don’t let it get you down as you obviously have a firm understanding of what the topic was!!
This is what's wrong with bank of America. They shovel hundreds of millions of dollars out the door and spare some unqualified wheenies' feelings. Being right is everything just ask a heart surgeon.
the US is going down the toilet
don't try and block it just let it get su-ked down and try not to get caught in it
@a8 -
Well said. You described pretty much every manager in this place. The arrogance/insecurity combination so many possess is a an interesting dichotomy.
OP -
We've all been there. When you're an incompetent, empty-title manager (and deep down, know it), it's simply much easier to punish you and label you the bad/negative apple than to deal with the real problems.
I just wonder when all the toxic leadership and culture will catch up with this company. I mean, it has to at some point, no?
@a8 this org rewards sociopaths rather than talent.
Oh no. You didn’t label BM a false prophet did you? He must always be praised, along with his tens of millions of dollars. You must be happy with your trimmings! Never ever contradict His holy narrative!
D-mb people are too d-mb to realize that they are in fact: D-MB!
Especially when they're arrogant and/or insecure, on top of being d-mb.
They're not interested in learning from others to become more intelligent/polished/professional, their egos get in the way, and they're always looking for shortcuts vs. genuine solid understanding. So when (even gently) corrected, they get defensive, and take it as a personal insult, which in their tiny simple minds then morphs into them wanting to take revenge out on the one person who stated the truth, when just trying to help.
There's no helping people such as this, because they don't come from a good place.
They're spiritually stunted, petty, envious, and trifling...and some are very mean-spirited and can be downright evil.
Avoid interacting with them on any level...it simply isn't worth it.
They will always look for ways to try to undermine, undercut, sabotage, and outright lie about anyone who they feel has talents or natural abilites which they lack.
Best thing to do is as you've stated...just let them stew in their ignorance, and observe from a distance as they sink their own professional ship.
