Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Good luck to all

My manager has been putting me on a performance improvement plan since the last quarter. There are seven people in our group, and I feel like I was being singled out compared to others. I have been with the company for 17 years and, for the last 16 years, I consistently met performance expectations every year. However, in the most recent middle and year-end reviews, I was marked as not meeting expectations, which feels inconsistent and surprising.

Additionally, there have been significant changes in the team, including the introduction of more offshore resources, which has impacted the overall team structure and workload distribution.

There is also another person in my team who has had performance issues and took leave last month, Overall, this job has felt very draining on people, especially recently.

Today, I was terminated from my position. I feel it’s time for me to reset, reflect, and carefully think about my next steps and career direction. Wishing everyone the best moving forward.

Imagine having to train offshore, pick up coworkers slack, work overtime here and there all the while knowing your layoff date is coming and everything is business as usual until then.
Pizza parties and such and the date is during employee appreciation week.

Then get laid off. Thank you all for your efforts, you may leave whenever you like. Don't indicate anything in your out of office.
Login in system to find an IM on top of everything else.
No checking see how youre doing. Completely ghosted by management despite leaving on good terms...

Reached out several times and absolutely no contact. Pretty lousy.

@cd my question is based on that I heard they were doing away with PIPs; and if not, do they tell you that you’re on a PIP or do they just sort of think you’re gonna figure it out for yourself and before they terminate you regardless of whether it was justified or not, do they put you on a PIP first, even though, I get it: the whole idea of a PIP is not to improve the person, but rather to justify a reason for termination. (we need to find a better word to use instead of termination. It just sounds so…ugh… kind of like we are … maybe we should just say fired, to me it sounds a lot better than being terminated)

All of Wells Fargo should be on a performance improvement plan.

Here's the sad truth: If you get put on a performance plan for an "issue" and you have any relapse of that "issue", you are gone. The performance plan is not about fixing you, it's about documenting why you need to be terminated. Any evidence will be used to get you out of here "for cause" with no severance provided.

What used to take several months or a year to justify termination can happen in just a few months now.

@b6 nope, this is how it’s going these days. An entire quarter + has passed - time to terminate.

@OP
Put on a perf plan in Q4 last year and now termed?
Q1 just ended.
Hardly any time to turn things around.
Doesn't make sense.
Either you are leaving out details or you were on your way out much earlier than you let on.
Either way, congrats.
Now, go work for a better employer.

Been there; done that twice! I returned to Wells after the first one; now I wish I hadn’t. It’ll be okay. I got poor ratings before both of my layoffs because they needed a reason to do so. I’m now at US Bank and much happier. The culture is way better and they aren’t hiring all Indians.

@OP I’m sorry this has happened to you and I wish you the best in moving on. Even though none of us would choose this way out, I do feel most of us will be so much happier elsewhere. You got this.

Have no fear, you’ll be better off leaving this dumpster fire.

It’s going to be okay. I’ve been through four layoffs in 30 years. I always landed somewhere better and so will you. Take some time, rest, and get back out there when you’re ready.
