Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford - Avoid at All Costs

I worked here for five years, straight out of college, at the time I thought it was normal. Then I moved on to a competitor, and later a supplier. Ford was the worst of the bunch—terribly hostile relationships. I’m hearing from friends at Ford that things have gotten even worse than they were 10 years ago. Reflecting on my past, I must admit that I worked there, but not proud of it. If you’re a college graduate, I strongly advise you to avoid joining at all costs.

H-1B requires employment. I've seen plenty of people hired specifically for this reason.

@sz It will be, but on the road to China ownership. They see the weakness and will exploit it to the fullest. China will own Ford outright in 30 years. Until then, we will see the dominoes fall slowly in the form of partnerships.

It ain’t what it used to be, maybe I only recently woke up to that fact, this place really is toxic, the people used to be decent, there are still a few of us but it’s getting scarcer and scarcer. Unfortunately, this is Billy’s legacy, he thinks it’s a train station, but no one will remember or care in 10years.

Ford gained SV flunkies actually. See that's the problem. The Ford family thinks "just because" these people are from a certain place and culture that they have what it takes. How many times do you have to be shown that delivered results are the ONLY THING THAT COUNTS? What has been delivered? It's been 5 years since Ford has been mainlining SV junkies into the veins if it's workforce? What has resulted? More Chinese assistance and partnership because they cannot make it by themselves. And you somehow consider this progress? What country are you living in? You probably don't even work for Ford. Maybe Cherry or Geeky? Traitor.

@s4 Yes it was. Unfortunately it's gone terribly downhill, I wonder if the company will be around in 10 years.

@OP At one time ford was an incredible employer. Focused on training and development, valued US employees, competitive benefits, at least attempted to have fair minded policies, many resources for employees, sought to be employer of choice, and truly world class organization. Not sure exactly who started the change but find it incredibly sad.

OMG @n4+1kmh6qref. Bill Ford’s job is to be a public cheerleader. Just go back through the years and you will hear him saying “ we have the best leadership team the company has ever had in its history” about every leadership team. He was publicly saying that about Hackett while behind doors saying this isn’t working out, as soon as the Smart Redesign cuts are done we need to transition to new leadership. The leadership team was openly mocking Hackett amongst themselves while publicly claiming he was a genius.

I disagree. The proper way to look at the company at current is that we have gained top leadership talent from across the Califorina high tech segments which is crucial to carrying out the transformation plan.

Bill Ford has stated we have the best leadership team the company has ever had in its history. Right now. We should be excited to be a part of it everyday.

Ford lost a lot of smart people ; the top is created from former Apple and Intel gangs and spreaded it out to all high ranking to secure the post of moguls 'leadership' to avoid the constitutional upheavel with being treated properly: dignity and value , not for Jimmy's shares in the speculation busts.

@OP Automation, decentralization and diversity could not possibly make for a happy workplace. Loss of market share and high legacy overhead amplify all the problems. Just the operational drag and distraction interferes so much with the satisfaction one gets from real accomplishment…

Man don't let something as bass-ackwards as Ford do that to you. Its sc--wed. Everyone knows it. It's not worth beating yourself up for. Take a vacation....enjoy it and take care of yourself.

@hm this company ki-ls you sooner or later, I thought they broke me years ago, but i think only in the last year or so have I truly been dead inside. Zero will to even live anymore given how disgusting some people here are.

Great, that is good for you. Maybe you've seen it actually operate as a functional organization at one time or another and that endears you to the company. You've stayed at the same company doing something you can tolerate for 35 years, congratulations. maybe they haven't taken your soul by glossing over problems and band-aiding issues that come back to bite later. Either way happy for you. You manage that stress and if you don't have any, you're likely not in a position that matters much to the company.

Left voluntarily for another position about a year ago. I have to say I'd work a retail job before I'd consider going back to Ford in any capacity. No thank you.

Many of us aren't made to sit in front of a computer all day. As well, taking orders from puppets that couldn't DO the job themselves... Wasting talent and lives... Almost anywhere you go today is going to be the same. You won't be able to use your creativity or logic, just do as they say because they have all the degrees, they must be smarter and more creative than the rest of us.

It's a sad reality we live in. But when you look around at the real car enthusiast world and what people are doing, it's nothing like what the companies think people want. And the people that buy the company garbage, the horrible pukey graphics and colors, they are just sheep accepting what they are told is good. They just want to be trendy.

End of the day, 90% of the general population are complete id--ts. Myself included to the point that at an early age I was su-ked in to believe this would be a satisfying career. The high points I had were few and far and have faded. I want out asafp.

@ef LOL. Just like that snap two fingers and you move to a new area. You think it’s that easy ?

Here is an example: Few years ago when Model e. Was established, FCGs were blocked from rotating into that org.. Many were so mad that they quit.

I don't understand the complaints made in this thread at all. Where do you all work within Ford? My estimate would be in some legacy area that's likely being sunset. I would recommend moving to a more important and modern area within Ford to improve your career satisfaction.

In some areas of Ford Motor Company, the workplace culture feels more like a high school popularity contest than a professional environment. Advancement often appears driven by favoritism and “playing the game” rather than actual performance or results. It’s not uncommon to see less productive employees move up simply because they know how to align themselves socially with supervisors and mid-level management. Leadership at certain levels seems to reward loyalty and agreeability over competence. Anyone considering working here should take a hard look at team dynamics, because merit and hard work are not always what get recognized.
