Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

If hired back after collecting full severance

Does your prior service still count towards any new severance you may be eligible for later down the road? I got nine months severance pay for a layoff last year but I’m considering a new position back at the company. Just curious if I was rehired and laid off again in a couple of years I’d end up with 10 months of severance the next time.

It counts. However, they adjust your hire (service) date. So, if you were employed for 10 years, and were JE'd, then were rehired 10 months later, your hire date would be adjusted to reflect the 10 months you were gone.

Example - hired 2/10/14
JE'd (end of employment) 8/10/25
Rehired - 4/10/26
"Adjusted service date" (new date of hire) would be 10/10/14 to reflect the 8 months you were gone.

@OP You're an at-will hire. If you want to work at Cigna, and Cigna wants to hire you, just insist on whatever level. or more of salary, service years, PTO you had before. Otherwise tell them to pound sand.

after 20 years, I don't think I'd go back. I'm looking for work, but I won't look there. It su-ked pretty hard in the end.

Check with HR. For me it counted. They smash the time together and give you a "Continuous service date" that will be the old time and the new time together.

I believe it would reset.
