Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Workload

Curious how everyone's workload has been since the cuts. It's been long enough to know the real impact. My team lost just one person, so it's been manageable so far. But I wonder how teams that got cut in half are doing. How bad is it?

Insider in Verizon told me the uncertainty of hiring contractors and remaining employees in GNT RF has to go with the increased work load rest of the year

@k0 I guess lot of "rework" for surviving RFs .. Not sure what is better getting RIFd with some benefit or survive with workload requires to work weekend / evening ..

@jw It’s all that normal rework, plus additional rework to remove any proposed equipment that’s not absolutely necessary so we can reduce equipment costs. Plus redesigning to avoid/limit rent increases. Apparently, cash is very tight for everything except golden parachutes and private planes to Davos.

@f3 That "rework" thing was normal when I had my job lol.. Redo RF work as new h/w needs to be included , new carrier moving to 5G lol.. This must be intense now with limited headcount

It's... not great at the moment. Almost like AI can't do the hands on work or something...

@en absolutely but I am not going overboard, but I am trying to avoid being on any potential future RIF list.

GN&T. It’s rough. In addition to the extra work we’ve absorbed, our new leadership has instituted process changes that have created an abundance of rework and slowed things down. In 20 years I’ve never seen morale this bad.

@bk Are you working extra hours to complete the work?

Essentially took on the work of people that got laid off… plus other impacted teams means there is knowledge/process gap

@OP Work load has been the same or even less over the 30 years. I do what I can do. No more, no less.

It’s been at the stage that I could work 24/7 and I’d still not get everything covered off for ages now…so I do what I can and ignore the rest. There’s so much internal bureaucracy that could easily be cut to make the company more efficient. There’s still too much overlay from teams that do not ever touch a customer or the network etc and they are like petty tyrants

My workload has been unmanageable. Our systems have had so many problems and there is no one available to help fix things. Customers are escalating. It's embarrassing.

GN&T. Literally almost double workload. It su-ks not being able to keep up, every day we fall further behind while more stuff piles in the front. It's bad.

Curious how the RF team is doing with 50% cuts or more in market.

I’m handling my load just fine.

Business is slow, there is no direction so it hasn't been bad but the absence of meaningful work makes the reality of more layoffs warranted.

My workload has gone up 3x and I haven’t worked less than a 50 hour week since the rifs happened.

@OP It's bad in my area. We lost a couple of people in this round, and 4 previously to VSP. The work just keeps getting piled on.

It was all management. Why would anyone have more work?

VBG feels dead, and the workload is minor.

It’s manageable because their is a lot more deadweight to be removed
