Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Layoffs process questions

If you are laid off, do you always get a pre-notice? Many people that I have worked with received an informal pre-notice stating they would be let go sometime in the next month or two, then laid off on one of the Tueadays after payday. Is that always the case, or could you get told the Monday before or Tuesday morning? Is this determined by department/area or something else?
Also, are there any potential indicators (such as somewhere within workday/other system) that might give you a clue you are getting the axe?

@1b0 Going to attorney was first thing I did. All turned me down because there was no direct language ever used towards me to be considered as discrimination based on age or being female. The world is a scarier place than you imagined or you have a place that has been untouched by being over budget and in survival mode. That is not all. I had an extremely bad mgt team.

@ac and @ag, Termination with IM and without a PIP. Termination means without severance. If you are not BS-ing us and you are two people then I suggest you see a lawyer. Here is the cycle. There are so called performance reviews. There is stack ranking. Some organization modeling, tech replacement, offshore replacement happens. Budget made (used to be annual now semi-annual). Part of this budget is severance, rehiring, retraining costs etc. There is at least 6 months to a year after IM that you are at risk for severance (NOT termination). So if you were terminated without a PIP see a lawyer. You have been discriminated against -- cause all of us were laid off with a severance.

OP here...I have no idea if they have done away with layoffs and are only doing terminations. Im wondering about the layoffs process and if there is always a pre-notice/working notice if you get laid off, AND wondering if there are any clues to look for if you may be getting laid off in the near future. Im preparing myself and also very impatient so just want to know if its happening so I can move on with life.

@fm, Its just a rumor. The PIP protocol is in the HR manual. The person said he had a friend who said he was termed after two IMs. He did not ask his friend if he was on a PIP.

@ft if you start working for someone else before the end of your notice period, you forfeit your severance it doesn't matter when you "accepted" the job... just when you are officially employed by someone else.

What happens if you get a new offer, accept, and then before you notify WF of your intent to quit, you get laid off?

Does that negate the severance?

Technically speaking, that's not accepting a new job during the notice period.

@OP
I almost hate to ask, but have they done away with layoffs and have moved into the terminations… Or is that just a rumor or words spoken by somebody who either does not know facts or is a troll?

I think it depends on the team. Some will surprise you with either a layoff or a fire (termination). Some will notify you in advance if it's a layoff.

In the past, an IM get layoff. But now, many people with an IM rating are being fired directly.

ac ..here. NO I did not get a package. I was terminated. If I would have got a package I would not be complaining so loudly. The injustice is devastating.

@ac

Wondering if you got a package?

Many of us over 55 have been laid off. Some says it's because we make more, but my salary had been fairly stagnant since around 2009. Used to get the highest ratings, then systems were changed to meets/not meets, then changed again, and I believe again? Though I never had anything less than Meets or 3, depending on what they used at the time.

While I've seen some younger folks thrown into the layoff pool, the percentage that I've noticed is so small, not sure it would even register...

I haven't found a job yet, but not sure if I want to or not. But I will say, the stress relief from dealing with WF's Sh!t - has been wonderful!!

My manager called me and read a script near the end of Q1 one year that told me my job would likely be downsized in Q3.

Then they laid off three of my coworkers and kept me.

YMMV.

Another thing to be on the lookout for is reorganizations that precede layoffs. Twice in the last three years I've been part of a team that was consolidated and reorged under a new leader, and both times they came out of the gate promising little would change only for the new team to see major cuts later, once the dust settled.

@ac not sure if this is happening in every area but in ours the employees were forced ranked at the end of the year last year. When these cuts come down, they are mandated reductions. I bet if you could see the rankings there would be a correlation with that list and who receives "inconsistently meets" to cover their bases.

@ac 100 percent agree. This is their new policy. Happened to me as well, just waiting to get the axe Filing a dispute with HR is a waste of time.

The only clue I had is that they sorta stopped talking to you. The other clue is that after you deliver something it is sent to India. They call you up at all hours to handle a crisis. Working with them was kind of like going back 20 years in my career. When your coding was like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if it worked. Did they want to know how to work the unit tests... No. How the cache worked... No. Then you get it back and just sigh. What I delivered was K8 compatible.. what came back was not.

Hey..I was fired and it was not because of theft or policy violations. It was due to rank and yank. Mgt gave me Inconsistently Meets so they could force me out. I was a p5 exempt with long tenure over age 60. There were no issues with my work. They made it up. HR does not care. Officially it said on my termination package "failed to perform work duties". I never failed at any job ever! Wake up because I am not the only one!

Depends on the manager. Managers are not supposed to divulge... but they do anyway, or at least give strong hints. Things like the dates of the non-core location terminations are known months in advance.

If you're laid off, you'll get a package. If you're fired, you don't. Typically (though not sure how this is working today under Chainsaw), you're fired for things like theft or whatever. You're laid off when they've decided to not have positions in your location or to downsize your department, etc.

Good luck!

I am confused over this firing matter… A lot of people I work with are saying that they’re not doing firing. They’re doing layoffs… Because if they were to do firings, there could be problems for Wells Fargo so they are not there yet… other people say the complete opposite and they back up what they’re saying with what sounds true.
