Was on PTO all last week. Manager set a meeting with me tomorrow afternoon titled ‘Catch up’. Odds I’m getting canned?

I also got the same email subject two weeks ago. And I was RIF'ed
@fa so sorry, that is the worst. Grateful for a colleague RIFd last March, they waited until she returned from vacay to tell her and she got to have a week of happiness before the bo-b drop.
Correct.
I was RIF'd by the Worst "manager" in Sh!ttybank last week by a forced and sudden "Catchup" meeting invite in the morning.
Tech 388 New York City.
IT, and he's an IT rattled off the Script he was reading from inside his house. Same ugly green walls background I've seen in other meetings.
I guess HR told the "managers" to do the Firings/Layoffs from home & WFH. There's NO way in HE!! his own "manager" did Not sign off on and approve my Layoff.
There were also clues including but Not limited to both of them being aloof since December 2025 and giving me less work to do.
I was actually hoping to be RIF'd from the Worst "manager" in the Entire Universe !!! LOL !
ROLAIDS RIF spells RELIEF as the commercial goes ! LOL !
Did anyone else get notified while out on vacation? I just did
@dw Thanks. Following up on this, my manager pushed the call back until Wednesday so I pinged him about it. Turns out it’s not bad news, but he wanted to literally “catch up” on a few different initiatives that are ongoing. That “catch up” meeting title definitely could have been worded better lol. Seconding what others said, the meeting being in the afternoon may also be uncommon for RIF calls, but that’s just a guess.
OP, any updates? hope things are ok
More often, they will inform you at the beginning of the day.
@OP What happened???
They better “catch up!” On their stock price! Very ignorant.
Trim posted all of the code words. Catchup, touch base, etc.
Sorry that you’re getting axed. But once you find a new spot, you’ll be happier.
Good luck.
It could also be to let you know there were impacts in your team and new responsibilities. As others have said, layoff discussions are usually early.
That way, they get the full day output from you before you're axed.
OP: The odds are excellent. The subject line of my RIF discussion last Tuesday in New York was 'catch-up'. I guess this is what HR tells them to do. I am rather shocked that you got so much lead time. I got the invite to my 'catch-up' call exactly 15 minutes before the meeting.
Spend today making any final print-outs that you might need because your system access will be ki-led this evening. After the meeting, once you have your official termination date, go to workday and print out your attendance balance as of that termination date. You will still be able to access 401k, pension and spending accounts, after you lose access, but not Workday.
A friend who got RIF'd rushed out a farewell email to colleagues but he had volunteered for the RIF. The involuntaries seem less inclined to do that.
@bh It's set for 4:30pm (I'm based out of TX). I agree that it seems weird to schedule it for end of day if it's bad news lol. I'll follow up in this thread either way
Definitely.
Probably just wants to hear about your PTO, swap vacation stories, catch you up on any office gossip, etc.
If it's uncharacteristic of them to schedule vague meetings like that, then possibly. Regardless, it is insensitive of them to send that without some information. As the other poster said, afternoon would be strange. Is it for 15 minutes or longer? If its 30 or more, you're probably ok.
Molly you in danger girl
@OP Reply to the meeting in the morning and propose a new time like after 5 PM or the next day. Then see what happens.
Catchup with just you and manager points to yes. :(
Don't think,if it's not in morning
Yes
