Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

If the F2 reflector works, the share price will go to $100

Rest assured. It's a big if tho

@8ef I realize that…and that is why I said medium-term. The line-fit of new LEO terminals will take time and clearly the likes of Delta and American will still want to try and amortize their existing Viasat investment. It’s more about a downward trajectory for the CommAir business which will be looked on very poorly by analysts and institutional shareholders alike. And that, ultimately, will result in further layoffs sadly

Viasat's moto...

We put the 'Space' in 'Spacebar'... specifically the 700ms of space between when you hit it and when anything actually happens.

@OP
Our brand awareness is so high that even our own employees aren't aware of what we're selling.

@8e7 you are talking about thousands of aircraft. Could they take a large chunk of aircraft from Viasat? Sure. Are they likely to take aircraft from other providers (GoGo/Anuvu) first? Most likely. The Delta article, or at least the one they released, stated they were still moving forward with Viasat as a provider. Do I think overall commercial aviation business will be impacted? Yes, and it has already started, but it’s not just going away overnight. Amazon LEO for Delta isn’t slated until 2028.

So today Delta goes with Amazon Leo and tomorrow American goes with Starlink and/or potentially Amazon Leo : https://www.basenor.com/blogs/news/american-airlines-in-talks-to-adopt-starlink-wi-fi. United is obviously already lost.
Sorry but your commercial aviation business is toast in the medium-term regardless of F2 or F3 working or not

@89x Obviously F2 was delayed for a pretty good reason, but I had the similar thought process on announcing that as well. Just crickets, even when United announced Starlink… thought it would be the perfect time to have your PR team do something, but nope.

I’m just going to assume no news is good news, and wait until late April/early May for EIS and launch of F3

You'd think Sat Show was the right place to announce "we're back baby" or some such marketing message about a reflector deployment putting us on the short path to revenue.

Anyone getting worried about the reflector? Shouldn't they have tried to deploy it by now?

Q: How many Viasat engineers does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Five. One to sc--w it in, and four to write a 60-page contract explaining that the bulb is "unlimited," but the brightness will be throttled to a single candlepower after the first three seconds of use.

I wonder how big the niche is. Cable is always better if you can get it. Starlink is better unless you don't have a clear view of the sky. 5G is better than viasat if you have good cell signal. The niche is getting smaller.

@ef Absolutely - this is all about returning to FCF positive and so the RIFs will continue in order to maintain the path to this outcome. It is a tired, legacy IT company play but anything else will have analysts being pessimistic about the stock again…and that is not a good message to the markets

I wish it would as stock-holding ex-employee…but F3 won’t drive this given the company is being overtaken by the LEO competition. D2D plans via the MSSA are both years late and unconvincing. The best route to $100 per share valuation is the company being acquired…which would also clear out the current weak and lazy technical leadership in the shape of GC together with his horrid cronyism that is the reason for years of decline.

@OP yes, I'm sure they sunk in a lot engineering hours to reduce that risk this time, but it still might be enough. They thought we nailed it with F1. It's hard to quantify this risk. Even with a successful unfurling this might not reach up to $100 a share or guarantee that there's not a future RIF.

Buyer beware!

Since we are dreaming, why go to $200 if it works?
