Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

If my team just hired someone this month, is that a good sign that we're safe from layoffs?

Like surely the company wouldn't allow us to hire someone, and then immediately tell us we need to lay people off... right?

@OP Did you consider the person they hired was meant to replace you?

Unfortunately that’s not true. We hired in my department all last year and could still use some additional help as our volume continues to increase; but we also had layoffs this RIF, some were the new hires

No, not at all. Different roles can still be effected. Watched it happen today.

@ke That makes little sense, and not all divisions are going to be cut equally. If the labor is needed, the cuts will be fewer.

No. The algorithm dictates all. Teams that are busy as can be with many pending deal deadlines have to cut 20% of the headcount before end of February. So the company is going to lose a bunch of possibilities to make money because the AI slop machine said Team # needs 20% cuts.

@ek it depends if there's a need for the labor. There definitely is in my division. Hopefully that makes the difference

Not at all. I’ve been with the company 27 years and they will hire then two weeks later lay off. It means absolutely nothing

@OP It depends. If they've hired multiple people, then layoffs are less likely
