Think twice. I knew several people who moved for expat and then in 2015 downturn were immediately sent back to Houston. Due to downturn their partner couldn’t find a job in Houston and then they were PIPd!

No support at all - weigh the risks of your spouse not getting work and having career impact and even with expat you may just be gotten rid of just as quickly. Its a different company now.

It is a total joke. The “consultant” emailed a list of websites that have job postings and did a not helpful resume review. That was it. Totally useless. The truth is the expat program has been destroyed and there is zero reason to accept an expat assignment if your partner has to resign from a job. You will make a lot less money with just one of you working. Also beware of secondments. I have seen great careers destroyed more than once when an employee accepted a secondment role. Even if you survive secondment roles aren’t viewed as real experience by the company. In summary avoid expat roles at all costs.

@OP absolutely, Exxon will provide whatever support you need. The company goes out of the way to help expats and their families. The company recognizes employees are their biggest asset and truly shows how much they are appreciated

No useful help whatsoever.
There is an expectation that the partner should be supporting the expat and being a homemaker. Those who deviate from this are generally punished come PA time

Its very limited. After being expat on back to backs for almost two decades, we have not been able to get any use out of it. As the other commenter noted, if your spouse can do remote work for their old employer, or their old employer is in the expat location and can help them, then perhaps that might work out. If the spouse is looking for a job in the local market, the help ExxonMobil gives is just a paperwork exercise. They will help update their CV, and do a local market assessment based on yoru spouses career. As an example, in Japan, one spouse from our project went to the assessment with the service provider. Its usually a freelance consultant that is just taking a paycheck from the expat services. They met the spouse in a coffee shop in Japan, and told them in the first 5 minutes, without being able to speak Japanese there is no work we can help you with.
Even spouses with transferable skills, like medical, essentially have to find work for themselves. Getting certified with the local board for a career like that, maybe takes 3 months validation in some countries, received no support from EM.
In my personal experience, it has never been helpful to my spouse or any spouse I've known.
Ask yourself, can your spouse get a job themselves in that location with essentially no help, are they willing to take a career break or volunteer work, or can their old employer support them. That's really your options.

No, EM wont support. They say they do but in reality, it’s up to you. Most spouses continue to work for their old employers but remotely.

Usually the places that exxon expats to are developing or third world countries and it's not worth the spouse's time to work.

Would you rather them stay at home and take care of all the things you can't do because you're working 16hr days or would you rather they go to work and make 2 dollars a day?

Usually, the problem is the pay or job availability the location that you have expat’d to.
