Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Once and for all ... Badge Outs can NOT be tracked.

Folks, so many posts referring to forcing a badge out. This can not be done in the US in any state as it violates every states fire codes. You can NOT force a badge swipe to grant an exit from a building. It's simply not allowed as a safety item ANYWHERE.

@ch 9800 has had a badged gate between the lobby and the second floor for more than a decade because the second floor used to have a higher level of security as required by Tricare. It's nothing new. Taking the elevator down is an alternative and does not require a badge.

Ameriprise downtown Mpls also has badge out turnstiles, as a result of 9*11. The very nice security folks let me know badging out helps First Responders have an idea of who/how many are in the building in the event of an emergency.

@OP Not completely accurate

Badge outs are allowable IF the barrier does allow you to push through. Alarm does then sound.

Only requirement is that it does not lock you in. Just like any fire door that says alarm will sound

There is also fail safe exit doors which open automatically when fire alarm is sounded so they meet fire code. All moptum buildings have them. So yes they can require badge out

@bt Yes to this. They don't even need gates - just an RFID reader or the like.

The same way that scammers clone your credit card as you walk thru a tourist trap the powers that be can scan your Optum ID. No need to tap a reader. No need to pass thru gates. He-l, they could put them at the doors to bathrooms, break rooms, meeting rooms, etc. Or just track your location in real time on UHG property.

We are exempt employees. Not hourly burger flippers. Track my connection all you want.

3M guy is right.

They can absolutely require a badge out. But the gates/doors will open for egress without badging out, but they make a screaming alarm noise when you don't swipe your badge before opening the door.

Trust me, these lawyers are all over this. As they now run all of our HR departments.

3M has had a badge-out process at most buildings of their main campus for years, with the justification being the ability to identify who remains in a building during an emergency situation. But there are ways around it - such as a tunnel between buildings - and I'm sure emergency exits allow egress without a badge.

This is true but what they are doing instead is tracking if your computer is connected to the office network for a certain duration. This is not rolled out yet.

@OP
You are completely correct. I work in facilities and If any office has implemented it, one call to the local fire marshall will stop that practice on the spot.
