Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I'm buried under extra work

Ever since the last round of cuts, my plate has doubled with no support in sight. I barely get a moment to breathe before something else lands on my desk. Breaks are more of a hope than a reality these days. I am counting down the time until I can move on to something healthier.

@rw I love how people are not allowed to be fortunate to have a job that pays well while feeling overworked*. Why is it a one way street with these types of discussions.

@OP you have poor time management and work prioritization and problem solving skills and so you feel you have a lot on your plate at all time. No way you are overworked at a company like Cisco. And if you are a PE or above, you are paid for that $. You sound like a G10 or below to be complaining about buried under work

Same! I've had jobs in the retail sector that had no such thing as downtime or vacation, and the pay didn't match the work.

Just be like G2. If you F up some code, cause some customer issues just say "I own it" and then you will get a bonus.

Loyalty only goes one way. We're all just a number and our time will come. Health first, you can't replace it.

Manage to fail. It has to fail before they’ll do anything.

I know, I know….if it fails they’ll lay you off. But they need you. They want you to be scared of losing your job so you’ll work harder. It’s all a lie. They’ll lay you off if you work harder or not. Lay offs are simply a math game based on your salary. That’s it.

Good plan to look for your healthy next move.

Don’t fall for the toxic game. Take your breaks, go to lunch, take vacation. Get your exercise, sleep and spend time with family and friends. Cisco isn’t worth it. The game will never be in your favor.

Cisco is garbage. A piece of sh-t of a corporation, not toxic but radioactive. Run, run run, as fast and far away as you can.

I understand it's overwhelming..but eventually your number will come up and you'll be looking for another job anyway. Focus on that..
I spent most of a multiple decades career working in Tech..and loyalty made zero difference.

Gen whatever is so soft.
Try working 80 hrs at a toxic Startup and you will realize how easy you have it.
