Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

A question for those who're looking

Did you get any offers with at least comparable pay yet? I'm having no issue landing offers, but the pay is ridiculously low every single time. Is it just me, or is this how it is currently?

I was with "the firm" for over 9 years and like a fool, became complacent and didn't gain any non-WF skills. When I was displaced, it took me over a year to find ANYTHING and I took almost a 50% paycut, but it is a fully remote position. WF overpays their people, imo, so we deal with the mammoth amount of b.s. they throw their employees through.
And the folks they are cutting, for some reason, aren't the schlepps who don't do a single thing, week after week. From what I've seen they are cutting the people who do the most and best work - esp if those people aren't up in the managers rear ends.
That and they are cutting the remote folks, the older folks and anyone with a medical exception.
WF is pure evil, but a necessary evil for many.

I also left for full remote. Took a small pay cut, but it was well worth it to avoid commuting 3 times a week.

Over the past 2 weeks - applied for 6 jobs. Got two rejections, and nothing from the other 4 so far.
Will be applying for more this week.

Has nothing to do with being 'good enough'. There have been some VERY significant people cut in this process. I am not talking $250,000 senior managers. I am talking $85k people who (are) the ones people went to when they needed a correct answer first time out. People who were always willing to share their knowledge with others. People who were around 20-25 years ago AND remember what went on back them to be considered today.

As for myself, I was working the grinder nearly every day. Not just on the work that needed done, but doing things like building templates and tools that helped everyone on the team. Things that made it possible to cut people from the team, as irony would have it. Hxll, twice in my final 7 months I went to my manager and told him I needed more work and more difficult/involved work.

Meanwhile we had people like one guy in San Antonio who was never available when WFH. Another person who constantly had to ask and be shown what was going on. But guess what... The two people first cut from the team were the two with a 5 at the start of their age. Next person to be cut was the next oldest...

These cuts are not about cutting the 'bad' people.

I’m in the interview process and I’m asking 50% more then what I’m currently making but the range of the job is 20% more for the floor and over 100% more in the ceiling.

But I’m considering myself very lucky I’m as far as I am in the interview process.

TBH Wells pays better than other companies. I took less money for a position that was a level up, but I am remote, and still consider it worth it. No stacked rankings and less BS too. Sometimes, people have to be willing to take a pay cut to end up in a better environment.

I've gotten two offers at the same salary I currently make, but with a significantly longer commute, so I turned them down. I'm not in a hurry, but I'm seeing what's out there because this place is so toxic.

Even when there is something positive to say about the company, you mo--n$ twist it to badmouth WF. It was their plan all along to hire people at a higher pay scale, to lay them off so they could not find comparable salaries. How about this: yes, WF is paying top dollar to attract good talent, and if you are good enough to maintain employment and to return to the office, you may actually have a decent career here?

I found a WFH job within a week and with a tiny bump in weekly pay. This is contract to hire, so not sure what I can expect when benefits are included.

I found a new job recently making $5k less, but am 100% remote vs going into an office every day. Well worth it for me. I do see many similar jobs that pay much less than Wells did. That’s probably why Wells is laying everyone off.

Wells Fargo pays top dollar. Period. If you leave, you should expect a cut in pay. Follow Ramsey plan and you’ll be ok.

I've barely started looking, but a few recruiters have reached out for contract positions that are close, but not quite what I was making with the bonus. I'm fine with it for now. The extra $ I was getting at WF wasn't worth the sacrifice.

It's definitely a tough job market, but eventually the pendulum will swing the other direction. Hang in there.

@OP This is how the pay is now in the current market environment. Wells Fargo OVERPAID staff to bring in the top skilled employees to solve the Regulatory mess. Now that the Consent Orders have been closed, and all of us laid off, the job titles have been lowered along with the pay at Wells. Most of us who were laid off, have had to take a 35% pay cut when accepting a job offer at other companies. Apply to ONLY the positions within the pay range you are willing to accept.
