Promotions other than manager nomination

So is there a way for promotion if your manager has not nominated you? Considering your manager is only at VP level and is like your HR manager only. Can someone from the top or anyone else push your promotion if not direct manager?

It seems more likely to be fired than getting promoted at Robin’s sh1tshow

@bv I wouldn't ask nor expect any promotion, just be thankful that you still have a job and still getting merit increases afterwards.

No.
But HR and managers above your manager can get you fired by themselves.
You want a real promotion? Get a new position elsewhere..

It doesn’t matter who you go to, anyone below senior director basically has no say in authorizing a promotion. A director can champion for it but it’s way above them to approve it which is like finding a leprechaun, meaning they are hard to get pushed through.

You are the guy from the other day who reports to be a VP somewhere in risk or compliance right?

We already told you that your manager doesn't control your performance review or really your promotion. It's way above his pay grade.

Technically yes anyone above you in your chain of command can go into the system and nominate you. In reality tho that would be a massive slap in the face for your manager so very unlikely to happen. And nomination is only the first step, total guess maybe only 25% of people who are nominated make it.

@OP Instead of bypassing why wouldn’t you have a 1:1 asking why you didn’t get nominated, what stood in your way, and what they would be looking for you to do to be promoted?

If I was your manager, and you bypassed me and asked for a promotion, it would be a spotlight on any and all shortcomings with my manager
