Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Life is over

I just got laid off at Target and my wife who works at Amazon as well whom is currently pregnant.

Speaking to my future self get out of retail it’s too risky to have job in this industry. It's not like before. Just as a token of advice for those who meet their significant other at Target and rotate companies but stay in retail

I got laid off a few years back with a 3 yr old and a 4-month old. Couldn't sleep for 36 hours, went for a run in the middle of a 100 degree day to clear my head. Sell everything you can, use the severance to determine if you want to put an emergency fund and budget like there is no tomorrow. But tomorrow, do begin contacting everyone in your network, attending networking events and visiting staffing offices.
Large companies are not the only companies. Visit BBB, the Dept of State business directories and begin sending emails. Polish your resume. Begin contacting recruiters on Linkedin. Eat well, sleep well, breathe. This will pass. You will end you OK. Believe me. Your best time is about to come.

I was in the same place a few years ago my unknown friend. I was laid off shortly after the birth of our son. I remember clearly feeling almost dead inside and just hopeless not knowing what I would do, what would come next, how we would pay bills, etc. I'm posting just to let you know that with time and persistence you will be ok and probably much better off and tougher. I look back at that time now and wish that I had been able to see what I know now so I could focus more on how cool it was to have our new human. They change so incredibly fast and now I wish I could go back and redo all the time I waisted worrying and just enjoy what we had made. Jobs are temporary, but family is forever. You can't see it yet, but you will be ok and probably much more locked in on what is really important in life. Good luck and be strong!

Life is over?! Come on. Your south of OK but north of dead. Double lay off su-ks. And let's be frank, it's not exactly the greatest job market.

Got hit in the last big layoff at Target in '15. It was a bummer. You can have one day to dwell on this. But now is hustle time. 14K laid off from Amazon. 1k Fellow Target people. Cargill and UHG/Optum on the horizon for this week. Start ba----g the doors or internets. Decide if this is the career you want. I changed all together.

Life is only over when you don't breathe anymore.

And life is that little baby you got on the way that's going to make you forget about all this mess.

oh, my dude. You've got a baby coming! The greatest time of your life is just beginning. I

t's harder to grasp at this moment, but trust me, as your kids get older and become adults you'll look back on this time and the layoff will be a blip in your history. But your baby being born will be an awesome milestone.

You can always make money. But you you have finite time with your children. Embrace it, because as I'm sure many have told you, it goes by too quickly.

Sorry for your stress, and I'm not here to minimize it. But the good times are just beginning!

your life isn’t over you’ve got a baby one the way!! i know it probably feels hopeless right now, but something better is on the way. you and your family will be okay. it will be unsteady for a bit but it will be okay. everyone i know that has gotten laid off was better for it after (meaning they found something better). Hugs ❤️

It's a horrible feeling to lose a job, but strength has to come from within. Your health and family's health are what matters over a job. Grieve, you are entitled, but then you need to do some self talk and find another opportunity. You can do it.

Yeah, I mean, retail generally is doing pretty poorly because of Tariffs.

The margins for pretty much all consumer goods got a lot worse overnight.

That's why I made the wise decision not to get pregnant. Too much uncertainty in this economy.

Sorry to hear that.... but it's not over. It's just starting! Congrats on your new baby, who will no doubt be happy and healthy.

It su-ks right now, to be sure, but it's only a tiny tiny part of your whole story. Your family is what makes you while, all the rest of this nonsense is just here so you can do the important things.

@OP I'm so sorry. Life isn't over. You've got a little one on the way. It's just beginning! Don't give these corporations that kind of power over your existence. But I know how scary it must feel right now and these sentiments ring hollow. You're both reeling right now. Give yourself a little time. I'm so sorry.
