Fritz ran the company when the interest rates were low and it was cheaper to lend money for stock buybacks. Vena can’t do that because interest rates are too high.
How many MSO stayed behind?
Heard Provo also had some cuts.
Vena needs something big to happen within the company before the merger talks happen. The stock price has been dropping on a regular basis and none seems to know why. Ask yourself why there's all of these public talks, presentations, or whatever is going on that is specifically focused the image of the UP, instead of the actual business. A blind man can even see that the merger is evolving into a cover-up. Vena is going to be grilled hard at the talks or hearings about the merger. It's probably safe to assume that his past business models and his decision making at the UP the first time will be questioned extensively as well, and the BS presentations is a way for Vena to have talking points to distract the regulatory board for merger approval. It's not going to be easy for Vena, especially when quite a few shippers are already complaining about the merger before it's been approved. I'm only hoping that the STB deep fries him during the approval process. That show will be worthy of a comfy chair and some popcorn.
I think the merger is gonna be the coverup. Too many people are already moaning about fearing a merger will bring about worse service. What better way to distract from all the PSR damage than to blame it as growing pains from the merger?
Is this the Union Pacific Kirby Yard
@bv I believe the stock is lower now than it was before he came back. Fritzy I think was in the low to high 220's or maybe in the 230's when he got booted. How can a man like Vena sc--w up any company like the UP, and somehow still manage to be in charge of it. The investor(Soroban) who wanted Vena as the CEO, has zero stock in the company now. There has to be something Vena is hiding from the rest of the company. There's no dam way that any investor forces out a CEO, injects a man who's probably the most hated in the industry, and sells all of their stock in said company because they said Vena was needed to turn the company around. The company was healing because of his last stint. There has to be something that Vena is trying to keep hidden. The UP profits may be up 7% or whatever, but how many people lost their job for it? What's the overall revenue at the UP. Something tells me that the revenue hasn't increased as much as the profits have. When the time comes for the possible merger, it's going to be all eyes on Vena. Spoiler Alert! He doesn't do too well under pressure!
I guess since they didn’t sign the merger agreement, they got the axe. Probably more to come.
How many in mechanical made the cut? 4 or 6?
No kidding, different articles read profit up 7% or something. Stock today was again in the 200-teens? I wonder if vena has given up on the stock and is at this point just trying to do the merger just to have something to offset all the negatives associated w/ his ‘legacy’
Sadly I think a lot of the larger locations are going to see furloughs and possible relocations happening. I only say that because of the potential merger and some locations will either be closed or reduced to crew change points. If the merger takes place, then it's very likely that even the smaller locations will be closed as well. I don't know how many shop locations NS has or how big they are, but I do see many more locations and jobs being eliminated. The UP stock price has been getting hammered for some reason. The UP is a joke to say the least. The UP used to be a great company to work for, but now it's just a company that many people want nothing to do with. There's no job security at the UP at all. You can't trust the management. You can't rely on the equipment. Now it's getting to the point where even the pay is being questioned. This is why Vena needs to retire and go back to Canada. The UP has been falling apart fast since PSR was started. I haven't heard a single employee say anything good about the company. Meanwhile, you have Vena saying how proud he is of the UP team for the great achievements made at the UP. Ok, what achievements? What about the folks that were let go? Are they included in that as well? Sorry Vena, but your little pep talks to the men and women of the UP about the great achievements at the UP aren't mutually felt, especially when we know who your are and what you're all about.
@OP sorry they happened yesterday afternoon 10/26/2025
