Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

If they ignore our survey results, ignore them.

I mean John Stankey pretty much ignored the survey results of everyone working at T, told us we were in the wrong, our priorities were mid-aligned of the company, and that we are going to be in a market based culture.

Aside from being a buzzword, can someone clarify what that actually means. Does that mean we were not market-based before?

Sounds like I’m going to start ignoring the id--tic messages they send my way. I already have email filters to delete all these endless corporate company-wide emails we get from McElfresh, Robertson, etc.

Oh and to think they sent me a $25 coupon to buy something from their brand store. The last think I want is another branded shirt.

I no longer read emails or attend meetings hosted by anyone above L3, and my L3 is frankly on thin ice. This company is run by ignoramuses who don't even how to produce any of the products we sell. If everyone above L3 were fired tomorrow, the only negative effect would be Bloomberg not being able to find anyone to interview about why the company is suddenly surging in sales and profits.

@by personally, I use mine to clean the brake dust off my wheels. That’s about all it’s good for.

Spend the company’s $25. You gotta wear something while you cut the grass or work on the car.

If nothing else, understand that this corporation is not interested in collaborating with employees to understand their wants and desires or even cares about things like a work-life balance. They're focused only on results today, not last month or last year. Whining about WFH is falling on deaf ears. They could care less about commitments made years ago like healthcare supplements in retirement.
The company is in cut throat mode. Other corporations who follow this model, like Tesla, experience high burnout rates. But they say they pay their high performers handsomely !
You either align with the objectives (culture) or you're out. It's that simple.
They've told you who they are. Pay attention! Watch what happens next.

@am I have never been with a company that doesn’t focus on competitiveness, achievement, hitting targets and at least to some extent the customer. Success is a different story. I would not say Tesla and Microsoft are very customer focused. They are however, awful to their employees, even worse than this place and using them as any sort of benchmark shows what leadership thinks of us. Market-based culture is same kind of useless fluff as ‘focus on the customer’ and lots of other MBA gobbledygook.

Someone asked a question about corporation cultures...ATT has described itself as...
Market based cultures are organizations that place heavy emphasis on competitiveness, achievement, customer focus, hitting targets. Companies who subscribe to this culture are many like SalesForce, Amazon, Microsoft, Tesla.
There are other 'cultures' out there--three others in fact that corporations use to identify the way they run their businesses. There are pros and cons for all of them.
It makes sense to know what the culture of a corporation is especially if you're, say a recent college graduate, because how a company describes their culture should be a big determinant in deciding if they align with your values.
Long term employees often discover that evolving cultures no longer fit their needs.
Hope the description helps a bit.

He didn’t ignore them. He told us we were old, outdated, and not to expect him to care how much experience we have. Then he pushed his agenda downhill and told all the VP’s to pick action items to “address and resolve” the biggest complaints, while putting the spin on it that it is all due to lack of employee self-upskilling and lack of knowledge of all the marvelous benefits we supposedly have. Just wait - you’ll hear about it by year end. Narcissism and Gaslighting should be listed on all level 3 and above resumes.

I’ve filled out my last AT&T employee survey. If you don’t address the #1 issue by far then what’s the point?

I just think it’s a total disconnect. Prime example, the employee well being ranking low. Now we see all this stuff on healthcare and mental health. Uh, that’s not what was meant by that. People were referring to work/life balance, recognition, promotions, bonuses, pay raises, taking care of your people, doing special things for them. Saying “if you don’t like it, leave,” highlights they don’t care.

@OP the Stank has attempted to explain market based vs loyalty based for 1,000 times. He fails miserably at it.
Essentially, these terms are used to describe companies’ attitudes toward employees.
Historically, after World War II, many companies, including ATT were loyalty based. They wanted employees to stay until retirement by offering Pensions and Medical benefits. They gave employees perks, so that they remain loyal and stay until retirement.
Market based replaces loyalty perks with potentially things such as Caregiver benefits and more holidays such as MLK day off. The thought is that instead of focusing on staying until retirement benefits, the focus is on benefits to help you today, not some day. You’re not expected or encouraged to stay until retirement benefits, but you do get perks right here and now.

I won’t be filling out any more ATT employee surveys , that I can assure you.
A low interest rate in the surveys will tell them without telling them.

The only ATT related survey I’m going to look for is the Forbes survey 😉.

The only thing anyone actually cares about is RTO. It was the number one thing mentioned in the survey, yet they ignore it entirely. That’s good management and leadership? This guy needs to go

“ As soon as I leave this place I am taking all my ATT attire down to the homeless shelter. ”

They’ll probably use those duds in the fire barrel.

As soon as I leave this place I am taking all my ATT attire down to the homeless shelter. What better advertising!

Agreed. I use to go above and beyond in my role before. Now I just ignore any work requests that I get that may push me more than the 2 hrs I have dedicated for work daily.

Stankey did not "ignore" the survey results. He read them and told the employees how bad we are for giving him those results. He twisted the results so that he could use them as a battering ram against us.

Start by ignoring RTO. If we all do it, then what will they do? They can’t get rid of everyone.
