Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

IT who were laid off , how’s your job hunting

It’s honestly disheartening. You’ll see job postings with over 1,700 applicants, sometimes just two days after going live.

So many ghost jobs. So many ghosting recruiters.

And when you do get an interview, the bias and racial discrimination bingo card fills up fast.

If your job hunt’s going better, I salute you. If not, grab a seat. Misery loves memes. ☺️😁

@3dz Not if you're a Muslim Indian (they can tell easily by last name) or lower caste Indian. But otherwise you are correct.

@2a4 you know what that means. more work for indian workers. i know this sounds racist but that is the reality of things. i saw somewhere that indians prefer indians because they can easily exploit them or because they want to work with their fellow indians.

you can test this theory yourself. apply for jobs where interviewer is indian and see how many times you get disqualified. also pay attention on the kind of questions they ask (like their asking for the purpose of making you fail not curiousity about ur skills)

i have applied for 217 companies. im either ignored or sent with auto email saying “we have decided not to move forward with your application, yada yada” mind you i have my resume analyzed by LHH for more marketability (and i do customize each resume)… i did got some interview but 75% of those i got ghosted or had been strung along, putting me on a bench as a back up “plan” just in case their 1st draft pick didn’t work out or while they’re waiting for a “better” (or cheaper?) offer

makes you wish karma kicks their butt

@a2 it means, if you have a bingo card, you mark it everytime an interviewer/hiring manager has discriminated you because you’re not the same race as them, or because you’re a woman or because you’re old, you will have that bingo card fully marked very fast

I don’t even bother to apply if I figure out the interviewer is a foreigner of any sort.

@a2
it means, if you are not indian and your hiring manager or interviewers are indian (from india not american native indians) kiss that job goodbye. atleast in my experience this is the always the case.

My job search success has been abysmal. I've had a number of interviews, including contract jobs and direct hire jobs where I thought I was qualified, but didn't get the nod. But who knows what the decision makers are thinking in that first screening call or during the actual interview? I've had recruiters ghost me, and jobs that I can find are "low-road"(look up this term) jobs that are a drudge. I've worked one that I didn't like it at all, just to keep the butter on.

One of my former colleagues found a new job in a few months after being laid off. Some are lucky, some are not.

There's one thing I do however. I go to BLS.gov and look at how jobs are concentrated in my city. No surprise, dead end jobs are heavily saturated because of high attrition rates, and low wages. One surprise, in my city, there's a high concentration of software developers, and it varies with other compute related jobs where some or high, some are not.

For instance, in San Francisco (I don't live there), the number of software developers is high, as opposed to nurses. But any any big city, surpringly like NYC, if you work in home care, you are in demand, due to aging populations and whatnot.

My intent is to find something I qualify for, that is somewhat scarce in numbers and target those jobs. I guess when you are cornered you become creative. Good luck to all of us!

@az this is d-mb. If you think for one second this isn't a class issue versus a race issue you are missing what's going on.

Age discrimination. Can’t get an interview whether I give my “demographic” info or not. Not a white male. Anyone’s age is easily searched online even though I’ve removed the years I obtained my degrees.

I was job hunting and I came across many YouTube channels and Reddit threads where a white male sounding name always passed through ATS scans and HR rounds for the exact same jobs and exact same qualifications. It was extremely tough in this job market for me land something given I am not a white male.

@an nah it means cis white males and their white women allies a la Trump and his handmaidens.

@a2 it means preference is given to females or people of color unless the hiring team has that filled already. It happens everywhere.

“And when you do get an interview, the bias and racial discrimination bingo card fills up fast.”

What does this mean?
